JOHN'S OBITUARY
John Wallace Erickson passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the age of 76. Born on April 15, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, John was the beloved son of Wallace and Florence Erickson.
John's sense of humor was legendary. He had an uncanny ability to turn any situation into a comedic masterpiece, leaving those around him in stitches. Whether it was a witty one-liner or an elaborate prank, John's humor was infectious, and his laughter was a symphony that brightened even the darkest of days. His love for old movies was equally captivating; he could quote lines from classic films with unparalleled precision, turning every movie night into a memorable experience. While John's humor and love for cinema were defining features of his personality, his passion for music and art also enriched his life and the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He had an exceptional talent for finding beauty in these expressive forms and sharing it with the world. John's journey through life was marked by dedication and tenacity. He achieved a remarkable feat by earning a place in the Swimming Hall of Fame at his alma mater, Augustana College where he graduated in 1969. His commitment to excellence in the pool showcased his unwavering determination and disciplined nature. In addition to his personal achievements, John served his country with honor as a rifle instructor during the Vietnam War, demonstrating his bravery and dedication to a cause greater than himself.
John leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Jeannie, who was not only his rock but also his partner through the journey of life. He is also survived by his daughters, Kristin (Pierre) Vega and Lindsay (Virgil) Tegeler, who inherited his zest for life, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Marley Erickson, Lydia Tegeler, and Charles Tegeler, who were the apple of his eye. As well as many beloved cousins and extended family.
John now joins his father Wallace, mother Florence, and sister Karen Horton, in eternal peace leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting legacy.
To honor and remember John's life, services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to a cause that held special significance to John: St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Your support will help carry on his legacy and continue the causes that were close to his heart.
