After HS, I went to college at Wake Forest University and majored in Math. After college, I lived in Winston-Salem, NC and worked for a mortgage company briefly and then decided I wanted to teach, which was my minor at Wake. I decided to move back to Delaware and I went to DSU to get my teaching certification. I got a BS in Math Education. I am currently still trying to find the time to take my last couple of classes to complete my Master's in Education and would like to begin work on my Doctorate as soon as I complete these last couple of classes.
I began teaching at Caesar Rodney High School in '97. I switched to Sussex Tech in 2001, where I taught until I took the job in Caroline County as District Math Coordinator. In 2003, I achieved National Board Certification in Mathematics teaching. In 2004, I was Teacher of the Year for Skills USA teachers, representing Sussex Tech. In 2005, I was a state finalist for the Presidential Award in Teaching Mathematics and Science. In 2009, I received the award for Caroline County Educational Leader of the Year in Instructional Technology.
I have been active outside the classroom in politics and other professional organizations. In '96, I ran for the 32nd District representative seat and although unsuccessful, received 43% of the vote as a 25 year old. This led to be involved in several other political campaigns throughout the state. I have been President of the Delaware Council of Teachers of Math, on the Delaware Teacher's Center Council, and am currently president elect of the Maryland Council of Supervisors of Math. Currently, I also do training workshops for Texas Instruments and SMART Technologies.
I have been dating, my boyfriend Chip for almost 5 years. We currently live in Dover. We have one Dog, Andy and a cat, Ozzie.
