In Memory

Alana Krams (Sauerwein)

Alana Theresa Krams Sauerwein of Downey, CA, passed away on Monday, March 9th, 2015, at home. She was born to the late Edmund and Irene Krams on May 31st, 1947. Alana was a graduate of St. Pius X High School and a lifelong member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. She was active in the church and school community and was last employed as an office manager. During the Vietnam War, she corresponded with Thomas Sauerwein while he served overseas. When Tom came home, he remembered Alana's kindness and warm heart, and decided to pursue her hand in marriage. They were married on May 8, 1976, raised two wonderful children, and had 38 great years together. Alana was always passionate about family and friends and will be remembered for her generosity, compassion, and capacity to brighten everywhere she visited. She was a perfect wife, amazing mother, and exceptional friend. She was particularly proud of her children and her support was essential to their accomplishments. Her family and friends will always love her and her memory will survive in the warmth she showed to everyone. She is survived by her husband, Tom Sauerwein; brother, Bill Krams (Mary Alvarado); son, Michael Sauerwein (Tawny Horton); daughter, Kelly Sauerwein (Charlie Drinnan); and close friends and relatives too numerous to list. A Rosary Ceremony was held on Monday, March 16th at Miller-Mies Mortuary. A Funeral Mass was conducted at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Downey, California on March 17th at 10:00 AM. Alana was buried at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach, CA on March 17th, 2015.

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
To follow the path God made for me.
I took his hand when I heard Him call. I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To love, to laugh, to work and play. Tasks left Undone must stay that way, for I found peace at last, that day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembering joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be not burdened with hearts of sorrow. My wish for you is the hope of tomorrow. My life's been full, I've savored much, good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wants me now, He set me free.

I went to high school with Alana and remember her as a fun, kind girl whom you always felt comfortable with.  She had a keen sense of fun and was a good friend to have in the tenuous years of high school.  A humorous aside: her husband Tom and I were in  a drama production of "The Matchmaker", later made into the musical "Hello Dolly".  I had the part of Dolly and had to wear a period costume.  We entered stage with Tom directly after me.  He got great fun out of batting the bustle on my dress like a ping pong ball while awaiting our entrance.  I have an idea this marriage was full of fun and much laughter. Rest in peace dear Alana, heaven is now a sweeter place.

I remember her with eyes that always seemed to be smiling. She was kind and friendly and I'm glad that I got to know her during my Pius X years.
