FLINGERS ARE BACK!!!
The Flingers will be on the field again!!!
September 11, 2009
Cindy Tyo Smith planned on making her fifty something debut for the Highland Flinger Flashback on Sept. 11, 2009, but unfortunately, she suffered a hip injury while trying to re-live her teen years. Jan's barely hanging on with a torn tendon in her foot (done on night number ONE of practice, btw) Jerri, Emmy, and Tina have significant knee issues they would rather not think about but at this writing, Anita has fared pretty darn well (or else she doesn't complain as much?).
Cindy's doctor asked her who's bright idea it was for 50+ year old women to do high kicks?
Athough we haven't come out unscathed, we are having a ball. It has been a real blast (literally - from the past) doing this. There was so much laughing going on the first practice or two, it's a wonder any learning took place. Just a little note: The routine is the same one the original Highland Flinger's did (after our time) in the late 70's.
Who says we are old?! You would never know it if not for the talk of kids, grandkids, Advil, and Aleve.
Here are some of the photos we remember. Come and see the girls perform on September 11 at the Jack Anderson Stadium in Dresden.
Here they are at a recent practice...
Well, here they are at half-time of the game. When I watched the practice, I had my doubts. I have to tell you, these girls were impressive. I can't say enough about how good they were. I wish I had taken the camcorder. If you didn't make it to the game, you missed a GREAT performance. They need to do this again. Hats off to these girls.
I wish I had a better camera so you could see better.
Thank you girls for the wonderful entertainment
