Jim graduated from Wahlert High School and went on to earn a philosophy degree from Marquette University in 1970. He also earned his master's in psychiatric social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in 1972.
Jim worked for 40 years as a psychotherapist in several Milwaukee clinics and hospitals. He also served as a hospital administrator at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, biking, hiking, and most of all, his life on the farm with Jane since 1976, where they gardened, planted trees and managed a flock of sheep and chickens.
He was the loving husband of Jane for 35 years; beloved father of Jesse (Betsy); proud grandpa of Sienna; and dear brother of John (Wilma), of Tempe, Ariz., Loretta (James) Crippes, David (Lynda) and Rose Ann Derks, all of Dubuque. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
