
Sister Mary Gertrude was born January 12, 1901 and departed this life January 18, 1993 in the 71st year of her Religious life.
Eleanor entered Mount St. Francis Convent in 1921. She received the name Sister Mary Gertrude on June 12, 1922. She made perpetual vows June 19, 1927.
Sister Gertrude taught elementary grades at St. Paul's, Worthington; Oyens, St. Benedict, Otter Creek; Corpus Christi, Chicago; Holy Ghost, Arcadia, North Buena Vista, Alton, Bancroft, Remsen, and Petersburg.
In 1971, Sister took up residence at Mount St. Francis where she helped care for the elderly; and, in 1989 she retired to Holy Family Hall.
As a teacher, Sister Gertrude is remembered by students and fellow teachers as a kind and loving person. Her affirming words marked her as a compassionate woman who cared for each of her pupils as a unique gift of God. She was a fun-loving religious who enjoyed nothing more than a game of ball with her charges or a long walk in the country with her sisters.
