David Gaskill (Anna Shell)

Waving hello from the Gaskill's. This is their daughter Shell posting for them. They are staying with my brother Robert in Schererville this winter which gives me a huge break. He is attempting to purchase a home in Rensselaer that will include quarter for them. They will be more comfortable and we believe this will allow them to hold onto their lake house in Monticello. It has become more obvious that they cannot stay alone. Mom was recently diagnosed with vascular dementia. We had noticed several problems over the past few years but her behavior patterns changed drastically. With the problems dad has been experiencing for many years, she can no longer keep an eye on him for us. So we keep them fairly close. We entertain them with having family night/betting pool on the show survivor. We play a card game they know well called hand and foot. Robert has a huge screen tv that dad loves watching westerns, discovery and history channel.

I take them to the casino on occasion. Dad is fine to wander there on his own but I stay in mom's vicinity. They seem to really enjoy that. I think my dad has my cravings for people watching........ as I see him doing more of that than playing the slots. (((annnnd might I add there is all kinds of entertainment at the casinos in the world of people watching)))

While staying in northwest Indiana, this gives the other children and grandchildren an opportunity to go to lunch or dinner with them. I am appreciative that they take time out to spend time with mom and dad/grandparents. It distracts them from the lulls.

Guess that is alot of run ons.... sometimes when I type my fingers take over even before my brain knows what to say! Spring will be here soon... we need it bad.

Thanks for keeping us updated on your Mom & Dad. I have not been very good at keeping up on the messages. I'm glad you get a break, I know what that is like. I am going to take more time and work on the site. I've become very lazy. Maybe it's the weather. Stan retired in December and that was sooner than he had planned, so it kind of put our life in a different direction. I love having him home, but seems I don't work on what I should.
Keep in touch and thanks for keeping us updated.
Hugs
Patsy

It is so nice to see what is going on with my classmates from 1958.  Living in Nevada makes me so far away.  I really do miss Indiana.  My husband has been in the hospital for 4 months, and I am hoping for some sign he will return to his old self. Meanwhile I have my summer grden in, and I am busy teaching gardening classes. If any of you visit Las Vegas, please give me a call, I would love to see you.  Helen Btown

update from Helen Brown.

On Dec 9 2013 my husband had a stroke.  Since that time I have been a care giver. Taking care of him was very difficult, so my daughter talked me into putting my house up for sale in Las Vegas and moving to Prescott Arizona to be close to her, so she could help. So I did that in Oct of 2014. My house has been on sale for 7 months in Las Vegas, and is just not selling.  Meanwhile I bought a small house at a 6000 allitude. So now I have snow, deer, Javalinas and other peoblems. I have a good Hospice to help with my husband. I do not know anyone here and miss my friends. This is a small place of 40 thousand people. Very boring. I am taking Master Gardening classes here right now.  I was a mg in Glenview Illinois, Las Vegas, and now here. The soil here is wonderful so at least I can enjoy gardening. That is my update.

David Gaskill (Anna Shell)

This is the daughter of David and Anna Gaskill.  I wanted to let the class know that my father died, January 21, 2015.  He died after a long endurance path with Lewy Body Dementia (very similar to Alzheimer).  We were grateful that the most drastic symptoms did not become apparant until the very end, we were able to keep him at home until his death.  He died at home shortly after the family circled his bed and had an impromptu sing along. All five of his children were able to visit him within the last few days and a multitude of his grandchildren. He was able to give us a couple of smiles.  He had just passed his 75th birthday.

Anna, his wife, is doing well. I am staying with her at their apartment in Merrillville.

David lived 2 houses down from me in New Elliot.  We were close friends and enjoyed each others company.  It was good to see David at our 50th Class Reunion.  My condolences to his family
