After the Marines I joined the Cincinnati Police Department. On November 24, 2007, I was critically injured while attempting to deploy Stop Sticks and end a pursuit with an impaired driver (high on heroin). The driver struck a pickup truck and sent it spinning out of control toward me. I was struck and thrown approximately 40 feet. My head struck the base of a steel signpost. I suffered a traumatic brain injury, several skull fractures, two broken vertebrae and several broken ribs. The doctors only gave me a 20% chance of survival, but thanks to thousands of prayers, I'm still here.
