"HARPER" HAROLD JONES "Harper" Jones, age 59, passed Saturday, March 27, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Harper was strong and supportive, free-spirited and kind-hearted. We will miss Harper every day of our lives. We love our Daddy. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; daughter, Dana; and sons, Barton and Tim; and many other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a contribution be made in Harper's name to the: American Cancer Society . A Visitation will be Tuesday, March 30, 2010, 1 p.m. followed by Funeral Service at 1:30 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Burial will follow at Rosario Cemetery. I am very sorry to learn of this and even sorrier I did not hear of his passing sooner. Last December 2009, I text messaged Pat asking if we could meet for coffee in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I was there on a visit to see my girl friends daughter and grand son. Unfortunately I never did get to have the coffee with Pat as the text message went unanswered. I figured it was due to confusion during the Christmas Holiday season. Now I realize it was probably due to his illness. My return to Santa Fe in early April was short lived and I did not get the opportunity to attempt a meeting again. Unfortunately it would never have been fulfilled due to his passing. I wish it was possible to have the coffee with him and share a few old memories of Eaton Rapids.

He was a pretty decent individual and I remember him playing in a rock band during his senior year in Eaton Rapids (1968 or 1969). We were not great friends in high school but did do a few things together and would always stop and chat. Usually the “man stuff” that us men can do without hesitation. The last time we conversed in person was about Summer of 1974 /75 when he was in Eaton Rapids for something.  I seem to remember I gave him a ride in my Volkswagen for whatever reason. I do remember in 2009 he stated the next time I was in Santa Fe to give him a call and we would get together. We had e-mailed each other that year and had established some communication between the two of us. This was though the Eaton Rapids Class of 1969 web site. I did wish to see him again and share some memories.  Unfortunately this never took place. Maybe in the next life. Maybe, but we will never know until we are there. We are all going to find out about this next life eventually.
