Comments:

After Memorial HS I got a BS in Physics from the U of Wisconsin at Eau Claire, then attended the Moody Bible Institute and obtained my pilot license. From there I went to the University of Illinois where I taught flying for a short time and then entered Grad school and got my PhD in Aviation Psychology in 1979. Then I took a faculty position at the Ohio State University where I served until 2001. During that time I wrote books, and convened the biennial Symposium on Aviation Psychology for 22 years. I founded the International Journal of Aviation Psychology in 1991 and remain its editor. In 1998 I bought a farm and retired from OSU in 2001. I now do organic farming and promote health through local food and lifestyle. I write a weekly farm journal aimed at giving advice to my children and friends about life and health. You can find out more on my website at flyingjfarm.com

School Story:

At Memorial, I sang in the choir and remember doing Oklahoma and singing, Thomas Jefferson's, "The Testiment of Freedom". I still have a 33 1/3 record from that experience. Otherwise, my years there were totally undistinguished, graduating 94th in our class and barely making it into college and especially grad school. I did have two friends who were distinguished, David Graves and Rod Britton. I enjoyed lots of parties at the Britton's house.

FAVORITE TEACHER/TEACHERS:

My favorite teacher was our choir director whose name I have forgotten. Anyone remember him or any other members of the choir?

Hobbies, interests:

My hobbies include, running (3 marathons, and many shorter races), flying, teaching healthy lifestyle, scuba diving.

How I spend my spare time:

My 250-acre farm is my recreation. I do occasional aviation safety consulting and teaching and through this have traveled to 35 countries and had the privilege of being in the homes of people (friends) in most of those countries. This year on the farm I hosted a wedding and served 180 people at the reception using food from my farm prepared in my commercial kitchen in a barn. I am planning to open a B&B this year in my 1840 farm house.

"Cool" things I've done:

I got my advance scuba diving certificate on the Great Barrier Reef where we dived with sharks and fed the cod. On the same trip, I skied in New Zealand.

Something I would like to do and/or someplace I would like to go:

Still would like to see the Great Wall in China

Write a book called, "Breaking the can do spirit of America" which will be about the growth of the Federal Government

I am most proud of:

Graduating from a one-room school house (Union Valley just to the west of Eau Claire.

PETS:

I have one dog (Jewel, golden retreiver), one cat who likes to sleep on my dog's back, one donkey, two houses, six chickens, and 55 poled hereford cows.

GRADESCHOOL/SCHOOLS ATTENDED:

Union Valley one-room school.

FAVORITE HIGH SCHOOL HANG-OUT:

Calvery Baptist church, Bethesda Luthren church, the Britten house

Something I would have done differently while in high school.....if I knew then what I know now...

I would have attended the prom, joined in sports, and run for office.

Words of wisdom or favorite saying:

My favorite plaque on my wall is my 8th grade graduation certificate from the Union Valley one-room school.

The things I value most in life:

God, relationships, health, growing interest in healthy food which I grow.

My advice for future generations:

Cut down the growth in the Federal Government because people in those jobs cannot lose them for poor performance and as a result they lose motivation, creativity, and production.
