I first met Don in first grade at Morningside Elementary School. Even then, he was a natural athlete and a lot of fun on the playground. He was the first kid in our class to ride a bike, which he used to go home for lunch every day. We were both members of Cub Scout Pack 4, where his mother served as the den mother. Later, we were active together in Boy Scout Troop 4. His father, Jerry, was our first scoutmaster, and Don became one of my closest friends during overnight camping trips and summers at Many Point Scout Camp. He was always adventurous and consistently displayed strong character. He remains prominent in many of my childhood memories.
