Adriana Fernandez Hey Grace. My husband and I are planning on booking a room on the westside of town on the night of the big party because we live on the far east side of town. I think there is about three hotels on Sunland Park Drive. There is like a Holiday Inn and a Best Western and at least one other like a Comfort Suites or something like that. I'll check into it and let you know.

On a separate note, when are you and your basketball partner Imai (Andrew, not Patsy), going to try make up for those demoralizing basketball loses against Coronado and me and ask for a rematch? On second thought, you might be better off with Patsy on your team;)

Reunion Organizers: I wanted to send you kudos on the band selection. 202 plays a good mix of music: I'm sure they'll break out with some 80's classics too - The Cure, 4 Non Blondes, Enanitos Verdes...you name it! How ever did you find them??? ;) Great job & thanks for all the hard work in putting this together!!!

Toni: I'm glad you liked the pictures. It was fun strolling down memory lane when I went through all my pictures. Good times!!!

Mike: Congrats on the baby boy! I think we're all anxious for updated photos.

Hey Mike, Congrats on your baby boy, Monica had told me you all were expecting but didn't know when. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods and tell your wife good job for putting up with the Barrueta name....lol. Raquel and Toni good to see you all on here. Man is this a good deal catching up with long lost friends and acquaintances.

Coordinators, did you all get the information I left with Maribel? My friend is willing to give those discount rates for the hotel for that entire weekend. Just let me know and get the contact information from Marbles. If we need to get something on the Westside let me know I will work on that as well, just think that Hotel near the airport would be great for all (Centrally located). Take care and can't wait to see everyone at the end of Aug.

Greetings Everyone,

I too would like to send a big CONGRATULATIONS out to one of my best buds, Mike Barrueta (aka BART) and his wife Yolanda on the birth of their son, Diego. I spoke to Mike and he told me Yolanda and Diego were doing great and would be going home today. He said he would be posting some photos.

I have been lurking around this website and laughing at what is put on the forum and glad to see everyone is doing well from reading their profiles.

Mario, I must say I was drawn out of the woodworks from your last post. When I spoke to Mike he laughed pretty hard and said that your memory must be going because he and I don't remember ever losing a game to you guys. He said if you can make it back from the Nutmeg State, we'll have to lace up the tennis shoes and show you once again. If enough of the old basketball gang shows up, we could even go back to the courts at Cielo Vista school.

I was approached by another Mustang Alum who was VERY upset and asked me to help this cause...

For those of you who toured Burges last year for the 87 reunion, you noticed that we couldn't get into the football stadium because they were re-sodding the field. Well, they are now tearing up the sod to place a turf that is supposed to last 20 + years.... This alum was upset because the new football coach has taken it upon himself to change the mascot to the "Bronco" head. Says it look meaner... and the turf will have permanent colors of Purple and Black. Last I checked, this is Burges and not Franklin... (A mustang and bronco are very different!!!) He says that if we want the Mustang logo and Burges colors, we need to act fast. We need to contact Mr. Watts, principal of Burges and the area trustee, Carolyn Grantham! Ms. Grantham's info is cgrantham@episd.org and he emailed the school at burges@episd.org. If you know of any other alum, pass this along. Info from Mary Q. Pena

Hello all!! If you noticed we have a missing classmates list. Actually some aren't technically missing, they have been contacted but just haven't signed on...
I would really like to see as many as possible at least sign on and even if they can't make the reunion to just let us know how they are....

For example Matt Alvarado was contacted, he lives in Vegas. Also Jessica S was contacted but she is in the Netherlands currently. (you can find her on facebook) Also Missy Holguin, Elizabeth Alvarado and Marie Rodriguez are aware of the site and still havent signed on. There's more out there too.

Lets really "encourage" the local classmates to sign on and show for the reunion. And let's get the out of towners to sign on and say hi.

I have become a member of many sites and am trying everything I can think of to send emails and contact classmates. Teachers such as Robert Fierro who is teacher at Eastwood High i have sent our email site. The local classmates, i have visited homes and left fliers such as Roger Dominguez, Dan McGill (glad to see ya Dan) and Luis Tovar's homes. If everyone could contact as many classmates as possible and get them to sign in... It would be greatly appreciated. We want this to be a big success.

*** Looking forward to seeing everyone. *** And let me know when the locals are meeting for prereunion.

We are working on getting some rooms blocked off for us at the Hampton Inn & Suites- 6635 Gateway Blvd. From what I know there will be 25 rooms blocked off for anyone wanting to stay at the Hampton Inn. There will be a discounted rate included.

Chris Seelig was able to get this started and we are waiting on our Hampton Inn contact to write up a contract for us. As soon as this is done we will put a link on this website for anyone wanting to reserve one of these rooms.

Sounds like fun!

John Alvarez Wow - Toni's collection of photos cracked me up. That Mazatlan trip was a fun memory. As I recall, we rode a bus from J-town to Chihuahua and then hopped on Aeromexico for the flight to Maz. How did the ladies manage to keep their hair so big at the beach???

I knew my previous post would draw Andrew Imai out. I will gladly bring the pad and pencil if Detective Imai brings the doughnuts. From the looks of Barrueta's photo and the fact that Imai has been with El Paso's finest for over a decade, I have a feeling you both will be playing the low post;)

In regards to Dan McGill's post on behalf of Mary Q class of '87, The head football coach is in his second year at Burges, going on his third . The football helmet logo was changed his 1st year at Burges from the running horse to a horse head. This year the team will be sporting new uniforms that look very sharp (imagine Cal Berkeley in Purple and Gold). I am told the school (e.g. student council)has been using the new logo for quite a while. The new field will have gold colored endzones and will read "MUSTANGS". The logo in the center of the field will be a horses head. Call it a mustang, a bronco or feral horse. Let's not split hairs. We will still be known as The Burges Mustangs. Lets just hope some moron doesn't paint "Class of 2008" on it. Perhaps emails to the principal and area trustee should be about less trivial things, for example the the recent concerns of lead levels and carcinogens found in FieldTurf fields.
