Ok, to answer Becky’s question… I personally never married a classmate : )
As for what seemed like the end of the world in HS… that is a good question and it seems that I get to relive that drama time through my 13 year old daughter right now. My mother likes to remind me where Amanda got her drama flare (yep, yours truly)!
I think that like many of us, in High School EVERYTHING that had even a glimmer of an emotional result seemed like the end of the world. I attended 4 high schools, so “fitting in” was never something I was too concerned with… In HS it was not easy for me to see past that week less alone 20 years down the road. So I guess I will answer Becky’s question with the things I have learned and what I hope to pass on to my dramatic sweet 13 year old right now:
1. Money is not the answer to happiness
2. Know who you are… REALLY know
3. Know that you are blessed to have one true friend that can see you past 20 years
4. Looks fade; spirit does not
5. Find something that you are passionate about and put your heart and soul into it fully
6. Don’t judge ANYONE!!! We can never know what someone is going though inside
7. Love yourself first… makes you better at loving everyone else
8. Surround yourself with people from ALL walks of life you might learn something about them and yourself
9. Don’t beat yourself up when you mess up @ any of the above, just start again
Ok there is my philosophical answer to what mattered in HS that has changed now… Like I tell my daughter, life is still hard now it is just that after 20 years of experience we are better equipped to play the game : )
P.S.- I love you too Becky!
