ok, on a different subject with the home page Poll.

I can certainly understand "0" for soccer players, but only 3 for tracksters?? come on now, the legs, it's all about the legs!

no love.

If I remember correctly, our sophomore year was the last winning season and my last season with the team... coincidence? You make the call... j/k. Those were the coolest... I remember playing on Thursday nights. There were even a couple of blowouts in which I was able to get my ass off the bench for! LOL

After our sophomore year, that was when Toby and I made the switch to playing music! Remember? We got Joe Santos to be our singer, Tury Macias played Bass and Billy Becerra played drums. I still have cassette tapes of those days...

That was awesome.

Rick,

Why did you have to choose one over the other? FYI -your band members Joe Santos, Tury Macias, Billy "Bicepts" Becerra did both the band thing and football. We may have won some games if you and Toby stuck with it. Who am I kidding.

Joe - I'm not sure we had character, more like a team full of characters. For example, if we fell behind early it was almost automatic that Osvaldo Chavez would start a fight with someone. And Jake Jacquez after having been kicked off the team coming into the locker room during pregame to collect money for the postgame keg party. Ahhh those were the days!

Rick when did you drop the "c" from your name? You music guys are so creative!

Mario, LOL, if it wasnt Osvaldo fighting, it was Angel doing it! Remember that?? I will tell you this though, nothing was as good as beating Coronado when your brother was QB. Remember that one??? That was just classic

Mario,

Unfortunately, the story goes like this... I had actually worked my way into Coach Henry and Birkhead's good graces out of pure effort - thinking I could soon crack a starting line up, which meant everything to me! Anyway, when Toby and I got our class schedules for our Junior year, we noted we didn't get the guitar class we had signed up for... that was only being offered during sixth period, which as you know, was major sports. We both went to talk to Coach Henry to see if he'd let us take the guitar class and go to practice right after... we got a long speech about our futures, how we would look back on these years and quitting and all sorts of data that was fully intent for us to 'not quit', however, I knew that I had an utter passion to play music... and while I loved and still love the game of football (I still want to coach), I never had an ounce of talent or athletic ability, therefore, I traded in my cleats for a six string... and as you can tell... I'm still doing it.

Mario... the story of the "K"

Actually, Susie Woo told me I should spell my name "RIKK" and I did that because I thought it was definitely cool. Then in college, someone spelled my name with just the one "K" and I thought that looked even more rock and roll... so that stuck. Plus, I used to love Triumph and Rik Emmitt spells his name like that.

Marty,

I'm doing what my bro's were doing back when I was in high school... I'm listening to the $hit that is making it's way on the airwaves and going... I guess we're not going to see anymore Zepplin's, Triumph, Yes, Genesis, etc... in the famous words of Lenny Kravitz... "Rock and Roll is Dead"... It's all one hit wonder music... you may party to it now, and we may like it for a few months because the radio plays it over and over again... but it's not the intense art that was coming out previously... (hang on, let me step up on my soap box really quickly) LOL - now all we have (and I love listening to trance/house dance music when I'm completely three sheets of the wind, but that's a whole other story) are DJ's, who while may be talented... they're not musicians. It's not like you could say "Tiesto is such a good "record player" player... "

Can you tell I have some free time today?

I am just blown away by what we're all doing now... laughing and reminiscing... it's amazing that 20 years of our lives have past. What's interesting is while it seems like so long ago, I remember all of your faces like it was yesterday. For whatever reason, I can picture everyone on this board... what makes me more or less apprehensive is the fact that I don't know if you guys remember me! LOL I was a relative unknown in high school, better known by the moniker of "Toby's friend". If I have any regrets its that I didn't do more in high school.. but that's the way things turned out.

What's cool is that we're networking and reaching out to one another, which could be useful to all of us at some point or another. For instance, I recruit for Cisco Systems and can certainly get anyone's resume to the right person. I just found out we have an El Paso office... Please reach out to me if I can ever be of help. It would be cool to keep this thing rolling, even after the reunion, so we can continue to stay in touch.

All the best to you guys.

Rik

LOL, on the "unknown" thing, Rik! That's how I feel! I find myself holding back from posting sometimes because I think people are going to read it and go "Uh, Mary WHO?" Ah, well, it's still so great to read what all our classmates have been up to the last 20 years and seriously, everyone looks GREAT.

Love the story about ditching the "c" for the lone "k"...

A side story for you guys. A few weeks ago my hubby and a group of friends met Rik and Victoria for drinks/dinner. They got stuck in traffic and by the time they got there our whole group had been at the bar for while (let's just say they had a lot of catching up to do on the drinks front...) Anyway, before they arrived we had started talking to this fun Australian guy that was hanging out at the bar and when Rik walked in he yelled out "Hey, look! It's a rock star!" Keep in mind, this guy did NOT know Rik nor did he know he was in a band, etc.

The dude just rocks. Plain and simple. ;)

Ya know, Mary and Rik, I believe that I knew very little about my friends from my time spent in high school, with the exception of my best friends from track and cross country. I think that I learned more about you guys after high school and have appreciated you guys as individuals much more than I remembered from high school. So many people that I didn't spend time with during school I had the fantastic opportunity to spend time with during college or after college and that's when I saw just how beautiful you people really are. I got to work with Mary my first year in college, got to see Rik perform. Got to spend lots of time with Mars and Jenn after college. The real world isn't after high school, but after college when we define who we are and that's when we are the most interesting. It made me wish I could do high school over again so that I could spend more time with others.

I enjoy the reminiscing of all these stories, though I only spent about 5 minutes at the Loya party, but i find this site more fascinating and interesting when I read about everyone's families, their children, what they're doing now, all the diversity and happiness. That's what I like reading about. So many beautiful children, how well everyone has aged (holy cow 20 years!), some even look younger! I got to have lunch a few weeks ago with Juan Macias in San Antonio and he shaved his moustache. Did you read that correctly? HE SHAVED HIS MOUSTACHE. He now looks 16.

I felt like y'all did in high school. I'm probably remembered as just the guy who ran track and I'm ok with that. But when I got to know everyone after high school, that's when I learned how wonderful everyone truly is.

Dan Pedroza. I loved your pictures. You and your wife look great together and so does Jennifer. Did everyone notice in Dan's pictures there is one captioned Sweet and Innocent Adriana. (Yes you are). But to the left you see, I think she was named Michelle or Shelly. Fabulous person..., but what is in her hand? Thats not the way I held a Marlboro light? LOL. Any speculation on what she might be smoking? No offense intended. Just having fun.
Loved your pictures Dan.

Jeff,

I can understand the constitution state being a bit far for people to travel, however if I can get Rik's friend, Bridget to make the trip, I would expect former classmates to start RSVP-ing;)

Santos,

True, Angel was the guy starting fights (on and off the field), however Osvaldo stands out in my mind because back in Mac Arthur he actually hit a ref during a game. My memory goes back even further to little league baseball where you used to bat cleanup and the entire dugout would chant "SANTOS, SANTOS, SANTOS". I'm sure Barrueta, Bart, Barkley whatever - can attest to this. His dad was the coach (the only reason Barrueta got to pitch). Just kidding Bart....You know I love you...but your pitching did stink.....as does your barkyard hoops game.

For those that haven't seen this photo, provided by Mike Fortis. These are my two best friends Eddie Escudero (clothing optional) and John Alvarez (clearly drunk and catching up on his sleep. Apparently what happens in Mexico stays in Mexico. For the record, I was not on that trip. And if I had been, I would not have been found in such a compromising position.
