I graduated from Sul Ross State University in 1970. I taught at Crockett Middle School, Coronado High School, and El Paso High School. I hired out as a Locomotive Engineer in 1973 with Southern Pacific Railroad which is now Union Pacific Railroad. I am now retired after forty-two years and I am enjoying my retirement. I joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1966 and was discharged 1978. I got married in 1970 to Carmen Sofia Diaz whom also graduated from El Paso High School in 1966. She has taught for forty-seven years as well and is now retired. My son Rene also graduated from El Paso High School in 1989. I have been married to my wife for forty-nine years which is a highlight in my life along with the birth of my three children. I can also claim to be a Disneyland fanatic as I have visited the park forty-four times. Three times to Disney World in Florida. I am still a kid at heart.

I didn't want to tell my story as the two girls will know whom I'm talking about but here it goes. I was always shy of girls and didn't know too much about them. I remember I was mentioned in the Tatler as "the shy conqueror" and Richard Montes as "the not so shy conqueror." So people already knew about my shyness. One night at a party a girl invited me to drive around in her car. I was happy to go but I never made my "move" as I had no idea how to do it, the move that is. When she dropped me off at home, she asked me why I didn't kiss her at the party or when she drove me home. I couldn't think of telling the truth so I said, "not until after the football season." She looked at me in disbelief and drove away. I told this to Luis Rocha and said I should have told her I was dating "Peggy Pigskin." Then he commence in dropping to the ground in pure laughter. It didn't help. As for the second girl, she also picked me up at home in her car just to go for a ride. Well, we ended up at Mundy Park and stopped. She started tickling me and I returned the favor. It got pretty good as we were tickling everywhere and laughing pretty hard. It got to the point that our faces were so close that any other red blooded boy would have taken the next step and kissed her. What did I do? Shyness took over and the best I could do was continue tickling her. This time I didn't tell Luis and continued thinking about my next game. Many years later I found out that the girls thought I was playing it cool. I wish that had been true. I wonder if any of my macho guy teammates had the same problem or aren't willing to admit it. This is not much of a school story but I do remember how nice it was that we all got along with each other and wondered how come these girls had a car and I didn't.
