THIS IS OUR COMMUNITY...2009.
.
How do you see our little microcosm of life working? What is it that you want for yourselves and this community? Re-unions, greater participation, finding of other classmates, support of classmates that need it, Elmont scholarships, ski trips...you name it! This is a world of our creation...we can create whatever it is that we choose to create for the sake of our community

We are saying this.....we are a COMMUNITY, we were a few hundred kids thrown together over 40 years ago, and guess what...we are still together by choice. The 100 or so people that we had at the re-union are a testimony to who we are as a loving, supportive, amazing community. We are friends, colleagues, peers etc, and the bottom line is this....we have shared our lives and continue to share with each other, we have an immediate intimate connection with each other. We were rascals together, we were silly, we were kids, and our shared experience, our sentiments and memories will forever connect us.
Please can contact me bsalmansohn@bellsouth.net or Joanne Dickstein to offer your suggestions, resources or request whatever you like.
This “trip of life” is most fun and most precious when it s a shared experience....we are so .lucky to have each other.
Your buddy,
Billy Sal

Mitchell Gordens: Love in the Verbal Garden, Part 1
if indeed you could fly
then I would want to be the sky
and if the heat you desire
then I would want to be the fire
and when your heart in its quest
does open wide and soft request
a man to be the one you love
I pray I'm the one you're thinking of

a painter paints what he sees
the angels paint what God conceives
a singer paints a tune so sweet
your love paints my life complete

Peace, Mitchell

Jacob Fishman remembers one unforgettable highlight of her travels…sitting in a plaza in Rome, drinking wine and admiring the surrounding buildings. The owner walked over and said he was from Brooklyn. He told the owner of how he loved old buildings and was looking to buy an old stone house (circa 1775} in upstate NY.The owner of the restaurant pointed out a 3 story building across the plaza, where we could see a bellhop carrying a suitcase into the lobby. He says,” That building was a hotel when Columbus discovered America” Other interesting places that Jake has been: sitting on a bench on the Great Wall of China and the terracotta soldiers in Northern China. Incredible stuff!

Jacob Fishman the real secret to an egg cream is the manner in which the seltzer is poured into the glass. First syrup (Loretta [you are my hero and I remain very sorry for being an asshole at the bus stop-I am now in therapy over it and I think it was caused by my environment-I hung out with a band of assholes] is correct, Fox's u-bet is by far the best, but no one ever had a bad day using Hershey's). First pour the syrup then the milk-whole milk foam's best-into the glass. Place a tall spoon in your right hand (left if you are a lefty) and hold it just above the milk. Pour the seltzer onto the spoon so that is "spreads" over the milk. Do not let the seltzer hit the milk because it will mix with the syrup and turn the milk a little dark). It will start to foam as you pour in the seltzer. Raise the spoon up just above the foam as you pour in the seltzer (holding the spoon in the right hand unless you are a lefty, in which case use the left hand). When the glass is about 3 quarters full, stir (again, with the right hand, unless you are a lefty, in which case use the left). Do not stir too vigorously, because you want to maintain the "purity" of the white foam. When the syrup is mixed in well, add some more seltzer (again, with spoon in right hand, unless you are a lefty, in which case use the left) and pour the seltzer onto the spoon (to avoid turning the foam dark-see above). With practice, and patience, the result will be a one-inch layer of pure white foam at the top of the glass. Amount of syrup to taste, 3/4 inch of milk. Of course, the seltzer and milk must be cold (of course) and do not use ice cubes. Then, take a picture of it. Add a scoop of Vanilla ice cream to make the perfect 35-cent ice cream soda. Then enjoy, enjoy. Life is good. this mixing technique was taught to me by my employer at the candy store next to Luna Restaurant on Hempstead Tpk at Locustwood Blvd. and has served me well over the years. My teaching technique (see above) is a result of being anal, first exhibited when I acted like an asshole to Loretta, at the bus stop. Perhaps there are other and earlier examples of being an asshole, so maybe it was not first exhibited with Loretta. There are certainly later examples. One thing plagues me: What Beatle tune has the phrase "Sweet Loretta" in it. I will not be able to sleep until I have the answer to this. But I will drink a lot of egg creams while I seek the answer. Life is real good.
