After high school, I attended ACC for Commercial Art and Audiovisual Technology and Design to expand on the love that I have for the arts. Reality hit and I did not want to be a starving artist. I went to work in the retail industry (Cato's), I figured that I like to be on the other side of the counter better, I turned to the trucking industry with Burlington Industries. I worked there as a Data Clerk for four years, stockroom attendant for years and in the warehouse driving forklifts for four years. Textiles starting getting hit with companies moving overseas, before the lay-offs hit, I moved on to a battery producing company called 3-C Alliance in Mebane, NC. It closed down after one year of operation and I came back to school to learn a new trade. I chose a curriculum that I had took up as a hobby, learning about computers. I graduated in 2000 with an Associate’s Degree in Information Systems with an emphasis on networking technology. After graduation, I took a few certification exams and passed them. I am certified by Cisco Systems, Microsoft, Comptia, and Prosoft. I started working in my field for a company called TechSkills, worked there for three years as an Information Systems Mentor. Later, I got a call from Piedmont Community College about returning to work for the college. I interviewed and took the position as the Technical Support Specialist for the TRiO program at the college. I have since changed departments and I am currently running the Student Success Center and covering Tech Support for the Caswell Campus which is about three miles from my house. I love it! I do not even feel like I am working to tell the truth. I am attending ECU online to stay current with forever changing technology; I am almost complete with about four to six classes left. I plan to go on and get a Masters in the field one day but life is good right now. I married the guy that I dated all through high school (he went to BYHS). He throws off on our WAHS Warrior and I always set him straight about that one eyed dude on the horse mascot that they have -- shouldn’t he have a ship anyway?
I do not have kids, nieces and nephews only and I love them dearly.
Enough of me rambling, I hope that your day is going great. You can put me in the stack of graduates from WHS who is doing exactly what I want to do in life. I have a good mix of duties that I enjoy.
