Jonathan Frye

Wow, that is a long time to cover! Here is the short version:
Attended NCSU 1984-1987
Worked as a house painter in Raleigh 1987-1990
Attended Alamance Community College 1990-1991 and got an AAS in Biotechnology
Worked at the Ed Thomas Water Treatment Plant in the City of Burlington 1991-1992
Attended East Carolina University 1992-1993 and got my BS in Biology
Worked as a Research Technician III at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill 1993-1995 and published 8 papers on Treponema pallidum, the spirochete that causes Syphilis.
Attended the University of Georgia 1995-2000 and got my PhD in Microbiology. Published 4 papers on Borrelia burgdorferi, the spirochete that causes Lyme disease.
Worked as a postdoctoral associate at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in San Deigo CA, 2000-2003. There I worked on Salmonella and helped make the first whole genome microarray for studying Salmonella. I also started numerous collaborations and published multiple papers on Salmonella gene expression and gene content.
Became a senior scientist of microbiology at the USDA in 2003. I am the lead Salmonella scientist in our research unit where we study antimicrobial resistance in bacteria isolates from animals. I have published multiple papers on antimicrobial resistance and virulence in Salmonella and other important pathogens. I love my job, students, and co-workers!
In 2004 I met Lee Ann Pingel who is the editor for distance learning for the University of Georgia. Lee Ann is also a talented poet, writer and author. We married on October 27th, 2007. We have a cat named Jasper and are currently living, "happily ever after!"
