Questions - Answers

So, there you are trying to convince so-and-so to register on the site but they have reservations. Maybe they're not really interested in the internet or they don't have the time. Maybe they don't have an email address. Maybe they're worried about their privacy. Or perhaps they are wondering why they should even bother attending a reunion. Here is some information you can relay to them.

1. Do you really need to register?

Ideally, we'd like everyone to register on the site. The more email addresses we have the easier it is for us to go paperless. Lower printing costs, lower mailing costs ... it's better for our class all the way around. However, we realize that not everyone will have an email address or want to participate. So, if this is the case, send the contact information to 87emmaus@gmail.com

 2. Profile Privacy

Can you keep your profile and contact information private from the interweb? The answer is yes you can! If you don't want to broadcast your email address, phone number or location you don't have to. At the bottom of your profile page there are two checkboxes, one for Profile Visibility and one for Contact Details. When you select the Profile Visibility checkbox you allow only your classmates to see your information and not the general public or search engines. Your contact information is hidden by default and when you select the checkbox for Contact Details you choose to allow your classmates to view these details. So there you have it. You have complete control over what people see.

3. Reconnect

This is a perfect place to get in touch with old friends who you've lost touch with. On each profile page is a message editor allowing you to send a message to your friends. This is especially handy if you have not shared your email address, someone can still get in touch with you. When you registered on the site and set up your account you also got an e-mail box. So, when someone sends you a message through the site it goes directly to your inbox. The site will then send you an email letting you know that you have a message waiting for you.
A second feature on your profile page is a comment box. When you select the checkbox for the "Classmate Comments" feature on your profile page (select Edit Profile in the Member Functions menu at left) you turn this feature on, allowing classmates to leave messages for you on your profile page.

4. Email Spamming

There will be no email spamming from this site. There may be an occasional email such as Save The Date or news about the reunion planning but the majority of the time, information will be posted here on the website. Be sure to check back from time to time.

What's so great about this site anyway?

The one single reason why this site is so much better than classmates.com is because it doesn't cost anyone a single penny, and it never will. It will always remain 100% free. That means you have the ability to send and read emails, post on the message board, post photos, etc. without ever having to pay a fee.

We also want to go as "green" as possible which will cut our class spending on things like postage and printing by a lot. The more people we have registered on the site, the lower those costs will be. We will eventually have a Paypal account set up so that you can pay for your reunion tickets online, or make a class contribution if you are so inclined to do so (even a donation as small as $5.00 can help with costs.)

Each person that registers on this site helps to build our contact database which is accessible by those who have administrative access to the site. Contact information will only be used for reunion and mailing purposes. Information will never be handed out to anyone without your explicit consent.

You will not be spammed with emails. All class information will be posted here on the website and it will be your responsibility to keep up with what is going on. If you don't post your email address in your profile so that classmates can get in touch with you there is always the option of the message box on your profile page as a way for fellow classmates to reach you. In this case an email will be sent to you letting you know that you have a message waiting for you in your classcreator.com inbox.

If you have volunteered to help with the reunion you will receive an occasional email listing current tasks at hand or keeping you up to date with what is going on.

You have the option of keeping your profile hidden from the general public or not, meaning people outside of our graduating class. At the bottom of your profile page is a checkbox for your profile visibility. By selecting the checkbox you allow only our fellow classmates to see your profile. This is also true for your contact details.
