I thought nursing school was where I was headed. After working in a nursing home the summer after high school graduation, I wasn't so certain. I tried it for a few months and withdrew.
I enrolled at Fairleigh Dickinson University in the business program at night and went to work at Prentice-Hall. I worked at Lipton Tea for a few years, too. I finally transferred to Empire State College, State University of New York where I completed my BS degree in business.
I moved to Santa Ana, CA in 1978 where a company I had worked for in Long Island City, NY had an office. I was hired by a division of Airco and had a wonderful job for 3 years as manager of marketing services until the division was sold. I had several other positions after that, but they all either went out of business or the partnership broke up. All these positions were customer service based.
Living in CA was a growth opportunity for me. I did things that I had never considered doing before. I joined Toastmasters, the American Association of University Women, took a lot of weekend classes, took up serious bicycle riding, and saw a lot of CA.
The last position I had was working for a friend as assistant property manager with a private up-scale shopping center and office building. After eight years I was burned out and decided to move.
I relocated to northern Arizona where I reconnected with a business associate, David Duggan. We married in 2004 and live 20 miles west of Flagstaff in the mountains and forest.
I have been working for Northern Arizona University since 1996, first in the College of Engineering and for the past nine years in University Advancement, the fund raising arm of the institution. I work with people who wish to leave money from their estate to the university. Even though I retired in June, I continue to work part-time. I'm not ready to be fully retired.
We bought a motor home earlier this year and have done some traveling throughout CA, AZ and NV with our cat and dog. We are planning on a trip across country to attend the reunion next fall.
In my spare time, I love to cook, read and spend time out doors.
