Obituary for Thomas J. McCaffery

Thomas J. McCaffery, 79, of Sea Girt, suddenly passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
Mr. McCaffery was born in Weehawken and raised in Englewood. He lived in East Brunswick for 30 years, where he and his wife raised their children before moving to Sea Girt 12 years ago. He retired from Preserver Group, Inc. (formerly known as Motor Club of America) after 41 years before retiring as a vice-president in the Claims Department. He also served in the N.J. Army National Guard for 28 years, achieving the rank of Colonel and having been Commander of the 104th Engineer Battalion based out of Teaneck.
Mr. McCaffery is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Rita (Heslin) and his son, Kevin and his wife Ami, and three grandsons Ryan, Adam and Griffin; and daughter Kathleen LoCascio and her husband, Joseph, of Hawthorne and two grandsons Dominic and Daniel. Also surviving is his brother, James McCaffery, of Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie McCaffery.
Visitation will be held at O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall (across from Tiny Treasures Nursery School), on Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt, on Friday, November 9, 2018, at 9:30 A.M., followed by burial, with military honors, at Brig. Gen. William C.
