In Memory

James Nicholson

Funeral services are scheduled today for Navy medic James Nicholson, who died in a boating accident on Lake Michigan while celebrating his return from the Persian Gulf war.

Mr. Nicholson, 19, was one of two men missing and presumed drowned after a sailboat capsized March 22 off Evanston's Lighthouse Beach. His body washed up Thursday on Evanston's South Boulevard Beach.

It was tragic what happened to James Nicholson (and Daniel Joyce) that night at the lakefront. Nobody deserves to go that young.

I remember hanging out with them that previous Summer, shooting pool, pitching fires at the Lighthouse beach, and talking about the future.

I take solace knowing that he and Danny lived live on their own terms.

You will always be missed, my friends...

A man with the heart of gold. Maunee(James) was my locker partner at Nichols. I just wish he could have been a partner for life. As the tears fall from my eyes, all I can say is I love you and miss you. Peace to the soul of one of Gods children.

Mmmmmmm Hhhhhh

My man Big Nick, you know you will always be my brother. Since the first day we meet at Brummel park when we were in 3rd grade. Me(Morrocco), you, Charles Middleton ( Cheesesburger ),Stefan Warren,Fantozzi,Billy Lewis ( Hogghead ),Ronald Walker (Hawk or BLACK Jesus)would hoop, play piggy bounce out, and sit around and "Rank" on each other ALL day (Hence all the above nicknames)and never seem to tire of one another. I love all you brothers. We were the Brummel/Clyde fraternity. I have always hurt inside that I couldn't get out from school in time to go to your funeral. Myself, Mike Barner and Erich McDaniel tried but couldn't get a flight. We did honor your memory that weekend. In short we will all miss you and our family has a big hole without you. LOVE YOU NICK R.I.P. from ALL your brothers.

One good brotha that was taken from us way too soon. This should be a real lesson that nothing is promised and to make sure that you treat people the way you would like them to treat you..because James always treated people well and I know that he is doing well with God for that.. Peace and Love to you Big James.

An incredible guy, I first read in the paper back in 1991 when I too recently returned from the gulf war. I was in total disbelief that James was gone.

Years later there is still a scar, to think that someone with so much to offer the world was taken from it.....

God bless brother.

James and I didn't hang much together but I remember he was a good guy and fun to be around when we were together.. Always a class act. I remember to this day when I heard the news that I was choked up knowing that he had served our country, city and all of us who knew him well while he was with us only to be taken from us at such a young age. I know each and every one of us who knew him remember him for being the great person he was. Rest in Peace, James!
