Almost didn’t post anything here since my years since MD reads like I’m running from the law, full-blown ADD in control. But I LOVED reading everyone’s profiles and just want to say…
WILL THE REST OF YOU PLEASE GIVE UPDATES ON THIS SITE??? Come on! It’s once every 20 years!! It’s really cool to read up on everyone & see their family pictures. But if you’d rather me log on and make stuff up for your profile, I’d be delighted.
I graduated from Clemson (SC), moved home to E’ville for a really fantastic year, then to Chicago (1 yr), Minneapolis (almost 1 yr), Chicago again (another 6 years), then Dallas. Met Jody, my husband, whose job moved us to Destin, DC (Alexandria, VA technically), Santa Monica, back to Dallas, and now to a south Atlanta suburb. Enjoyed every area, but are madly in love with little Newnan, GA and plan to stay.
(No, Jody isn’t a migrant worker; he operates golf courses. Migrant golfer?)
Sidebar: In Alexandria, we were lucky enough to be neighbors with Natalie & Paul Weis, and got to see Leslie (Townsend) Harris when she visited her in-laws who were also neighbors! Really fun.
When I’m not filling out change-of-address cards, personal time (???) is spent having fun with the kids and, like most of you, toting them around to their zillion activities. They’re hilarious. I could spend hours playing with them or eavesdropping on their conversations.
As for career updates: For 3 years, I worked for a firm in Chicago that orchestrated mergers & acquisitions for clients, and also did executive recruiting. In 1999, I started my own firm (Knapp Group, Ltd.) doing same. We focused on strategic acquisitions, mainly in the packaging industry, then recruited the executive teams to run the companies. Really fun work, but when I became pregnant with our second child and we were moving again, I sold the business.
I’ve loved having more time with the kids but have stayed busy with various endeavors (a photography business - www.mirandagraham.com - that makes me wonder how Myra does it; I’ve done some copyright work, have had a couple of articles published, done some work for my husband’s company…)
We try to get home every month or two and spend most of that time visiting my parents, brothers and Grandmas. My kids think Evansville is the coolest place on the planet and we always look forward to getting back.
Our youngest (almost 3) is starting “school” today, so I’m able to get back to work. I just accepted a new opportunity as Executive Director of the Keith Brooking Foundation, a not-for-profit foundation that supports really amazing children’s causes. (Keith is a linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons and an admirable Atlanta philanthropist.) I can’t wait to get started!
Looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion! A million thanks goes to those of you who organize these reunions and keep track of everyone. I was only able to get to the 10-year one, and had a blast! Well done! Let me know how I can help…
