Edward S. Levis
June 13, 1957 - February 16, 2024
Edward Stevens Levis, of New York, NY passed away on February 16, 2024. He was born on June 13, 1957, in New Haven, CT, the son of Bruce Levis Sr. and Judy Levis. Ed was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Richard Levis. He is survived by three siblings: Bruce Levis Jr., Ron Levis, and Brenda Levis; Ron’s wife, Bonnie Liu; and Richard’s partner, Robin Fimlaid.
Ed grew up on Maplevale Farm in East Kingston, NH. He attended elementary school in East Kingston, junior high and high school in Exeter, NH. He started his college studies at Northeastern University and completed his undergraduate degree and graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania.
Ed’s university education was non-traditional and extended. At Northeastern, he alternated studies with co-op jobs and was a residential advisor. At Penn, he combined studies with a full-time job at the School of Engineering and Applied Science and various roles in the dorms: residential advisor, residential director, and administrative fellow. He had many fond memories from those years and made lifelong friends.
Ed worked his career as an Information Technology (IT) professional. The first half as an IT engineer and the second half managing IT teams. He enjoyed building tech solutions to solve business challenges. His work took him to sites around the U.S. and abroad with wonderful colleagues met along the way. No doubt, these experiences had a lasting influence on him.
Ed retired early, sold his home, and traveled full-time around the world. His travels included visits to almost all of America’s national parks. He rode a motorcycle across the U.S. and Canada, from the top of Alaska to the bottom of South America, and all around Europe, catching up with friends along the way. He rode rental scooters and motorcycles around Thailand and Southeast Asia. Drove around New Zealand and Australia. Traveled around China, Japan, India, and Korea via trains, planes, and buses. After four years of travel, Ed was with his sister Brenda on safari in Tanzania when COVID-19 hit, and international flights were suddenly canceled. An emergency evacuation was needed.
With his travels on hold indefinitely, Ed stayed with Ron and Bonnie in Denver for a couple of years. He found seasonal IT work at Yellowstone National Park. Then, he moved to New York with Brenda for a few years, providing IT support at her relocation services company.
Ed had a full life. He left this world feeling lucky to have a loving family, great friends, and the adventure of a lifetime.
