In Memory

Hilda Moreland (Haight)

CLARKSVILLE– Hilda Victoria Moreland Haight of Clarksville NH and longtime resident of Deerfield NH passed away on February 7th at the age of 67 after months of declining health. Hilda died at home peacefully with her husband Dean by her side.

Hilda was born on March 17, 1957, in Exeter NH, the oldest of three children to parents Alice E. (Lowell) and Ralph W. Moreland, JR. of Exeter. After living in Germany and the Philippines as a child, Hilda was once again back in Exeter. She graduated from Exeter High School, class of 1975 and attended UNH.

Hilda married the love of her life, Dean Haight on November 15, 1980, and they have been by each other’s side for 44 years. They enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends across the country and were also able to travel to Germany. Hilda and Dean have lived their lives together in a marriage of respect, dedication and tremendous love.

Hilda was the best girlfriend and blessed with lifelong loyal friendships. Many considered her their closest friend and knew her to have a big heart. She was a selfless woman and loved by so many. Hilda was known for her candor, kindness, and generosity. She was a lover of animals, both domesticated and wild. Her yard is a gathering place for many deer, birds and other wonderful wildlife, her house a haven for dogs and cats. Hilda loved to read, bake, cook and preserve the bounty of the garden. A master at food preservation, Hilda was known for her pickles and jams and (according to her niece Emma) the best green beans ever. Hilda loved making people happy by doing simple things; remembering their drink and the way they drank it whether it was tea, coffee, or a beer, sharing her canned pickles and jams, and welcoming you into her home. She was an avid reader and the unofficial family historian, passing along historical pieces to her nieces and nephews. Her home, like her heart, was always open, warm and full of love.

Hilda lived a wonderful, fulfilling life; she is deeply loved by many, and will be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Ralph and Alice Moreland.

Hilda is survived by her Husband Dean Haight of Clarksville NH, Son Christopher of Florida, Brother Bruce & Kirsten Moreland of Tonganoxie, KS., Sister Carol Scoggins of Exeter, NH., her Aunt Virginia L Franzoni of Centennial CO., Niece Samantha Holcomb of Pratt KS, Emma Moreland of Kansas City MO, Kyle Scoggins of Wiesbaden Germany & Nate Scoggins of Newmarket NH. Cousins Gina Coburn of Centennial CO, Rick Franzoni of Leesburg VA, Dennis Adams of Grey ME, and Diane Laporte of East Kingston NH.
