Julie Oliver (Wood)

Julie L. Wood

April 10, 1957 - December 09, 2019

Julie Lynn (Oliver) Wood, age 62, of Rochester, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 9, 2019, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, NH. Julie was born on April 10, 1957, at the Charlestown Naval Hospital in Massachusetts, to Gilman and Cynthia Oliver.

She spent many years in San Diego, CA, as her father was serving his country in the US Navy. The family moved to New Hampshire in 1970, settling in Stratham. Julie was a graduate of Exeter High School, class of 1975, was married and lived the life of a loving mother and homemaker.

A naturally nurturing soul, Julie found enjoyment caring for young children at local child care centers. She became a licensed nursing assistant and began working at Frisbie Hospital 21 years ago. Her happiest moments were when she was caring for patients and seeing to the needs of their families. Most recently she was employed as the Endoscopy Reception Coordinator, welcoming folks needing care, making them feel comfortable, and expediting their journey thru the Endoscopy section.

Julie’s greatest joy in serving others was fulfilled as she became the President of the Fellowship Soup Kitchen at her church, First United Methodist in Rochester. She took to heart their mission to “Feed the Hungry”. She coordinated the various groups who “Fed the Need” every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the year. Her compassionate and giving spirit was evident throughout her service to her church and community. Special occasions she delighted in were the Annual Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas Party in December. She strived to talk with the young parents to make sure all the children would receive a gift from Santa at the dinner. All the local churches and groups hosting their weekly suppers were involved, making these, and other festivities, truly ecumenical.

She leaves behind a large and loving family, inspired by her loving spirit. She leaves her husband, Raymond G. Wood, daughter Cindy (Phil) Turk of Bremerton, WA, son Scott (Monica) Franceschini of Wakefield, NH, sister Debra (Nate) Whitaker of West Newbury, MA, brothers Mark (Tina) Oliver of Haydenville, MA, and David (Penny) Oliver of Williamstown, NJ, Step daughter Justine K. Wood of Dalton, MA, Stepson Nicholas T. Wood of Hudson, MA, grandchildren Katelyn and Nathan Turk of WA, Wesley, Hayden, and Cooper Wood of Hudson, MA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Julie was pre-deceased by her brother Richard Oliver of Keene, NH.

There will be a funeral service on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church at 34 South Main Street in Rochester. Family and friends will gather after the service in the Fellowship Hall for a reception given by the First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Rochester Fellowship Soup Kitchen in Julie’s name, or to the donor’s charity of their choice. The family would also like you to pay forward Julie’s compassion and loving caring spirit to those we meet. Be kind to all and open your hearts to all that can be.
