I am so sad to hear that John has died. We were in the same class throughout school and I always enjoyed talking or emailing with him. I will miss his fine- tuned sense of humor.

I've known John since kindergarten at Roosevelt School, now Forrest Elementary.  He and Bruce Boydell were the only boys I considered friends back then.  John was so cute, kind of shy (like me),  and very smart.  When we had to do "projects", his was always outstanding and very creative.  Good memories!  Rest in peace, John.

So sorry to hear of Johns passing.  He and I started kindergarden together.  Lost track of him till the classmate site appeared. My condolences to his family and prayers for peace.

In reading the comments from those who attended Roosevelt School, it is a real tribute to John that so many of us remember him from grammar school.  It was true that he and Bruce were the nice boys of our class.  I drove him to Massachusetts after the 50th reunion (I was going that way) and we had a chance to talk in depth and kept in touch even after we returned to California.  When the sadness passes, all those good memories will stay with me.

So sorry to hear of another FLHS classmate has left us.  As another Roosevelt kindergartener, then TJ Junior HS, I remember John more from FLHS than anywhere else.   Makes me even sorrier that I was unable to attend our 50th....     time lost!    RIP John....and all those who have already left us.

Deeply saddened by this news.  I had a gigantic crush on John in the third grade, and this is how I remembered him. I looked forward to seeing him at the reunion.  To my delight, he was, as I remembered --bright, interesting, fun, kind-hearted, and a sweet, sweet soul!  We re-established our friendship, kept in touch, and some years later had an exquisite dinner at his favorite restaurant near San Francisco.  I will miss him, and I know that in the future, when I think of him, I will smile!

For some reason, unknown to me, I've been missing updates on our website and didn't learn of John's passing until recently.  I'm one of those who remember John from the K days at Roosevelt School and still can picture his house just up Arnold Street.  He didn't have to walk far to Mr. Forest's castle.  I appreciate the linkage some of you mention between John and me during our school years in FL.  During FLHS years he and I began to diverge in our thinking but maintained a respectful and cordial relationship.

I'll always remember reconnecting with him at our 50th.  I knew his health wasn't great, but was surprised and greatly saddened by his passing.  I'll never forget the last words he spoke to me on that occassion.  "I like you a lot better now than I did then."  I had hoped to see him again and will just have to put him among the "missing" in my long list of friends throughout these almost 75 years. I'm glad I got to know him as more than one of the "really smart" guys in our class. I recognize that we're all nearing the exit ramp, and wish him and you all peace and hope during this great and sometimes challenging season of our lives.
