Mathew Clark Chambers, age 14. Yes, that's right, we started late and just got lucky. Matt was born More…in Ft. Lauderdale, 1996. We moved back to Fairfield in time for him to start Kindergarten at B.Gale Wilson. He entered Armijo H.S. this fall and is enrolled in the I.B. program (honors) they offer. While at freshman orientation in the gym at Armijo, I read a very large poster commemorating Jay Dahl's coaching wins hanging in a place of honor. I pointed it out to Matt and explained that Jay had been in my graduating class at FHS, was a valuable player on our basketball team, then went on to have a glorious career at Armijo.
Matt lost his dad after a relatively short illness just prior to his tenth birthday. He could have become an angry acting out kid but thankfully exhibited maturity beyond his years and really "stepped up to the plate", so to speak. Last year he had a huge growth spurt so now relishes asking Mom if I need him to help reach anything for me. He cares about people, is concerned about looking out for others especially if he thinks someone is being picked on. He's a good kid. Like I said, we got lucky. |
