Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that here on the message forum that you can post messages without having to have them approved as announcements. That way your messages show up as soon as you type them!

I think a fall reunion sounds fun too....maybe we could add Sept. as a choice on the poll?

Just curious, who posted the response above Carrie's about not being able to travel in September because of school? Most school districts would approve a personal day for a class reunion. I thought September might not conflict with people's vacations and summer sports. I guess since I'm already here it's a lot easier for me. What do other people think about the idea?

Hi! There are two posts on the front page about not being able to come in September. One is from Stephanie Finlay, who lives in North Carolina and is an elementary teacher. The latest one is from Julie Browning who lives in Florida and is a school counselor. I believe that both of their children have school that starts earlier than ours.
I can add September to the poll...I guess I just didn't think the people that lived out of state would find it easy to travel here for one weekend if they were combining it with a visit home as well....but I could be wrong.
I know that the class of '88 did have a fun reunion in September. Perhaps some of the people that live out of town could join in the discussion to give their opinion.

I can't believe how many people that I can't "picture" in my head, and seeing the "now" photo isn't helping me at all. Has it really been THAT long?

I need to dig out some old photos of myself... if only my 'look' didn't change so drastically so often:)

Wouldn't it be interesting to post senior pictures of all of our classmates?? That might help to get that mental picture of who they are in your head. The only way that I would know of to do that is to scan everyone's picture from the yearbook and unfortunately, I don't know if everyone would necessarily want their senior picture on here. Not to mention that my scanner has chosen now to die, so I couldn't be the one to do it!!
I wish more people would join in the discussion so we could get a lot of ideas of what people would like to do during the reunion weekend. I'd be glad to do some investigating about what is available, and others here in town have offerred to help as well!

Donna,

I think posting our senior pics would be a lot of fun! I can scan the photos and crop them all out - just have to dig to find my 89 yearbook. :)

If people want to put there senior pic on the site that would be great. If they don’t have a scanner we can put it on for them if they want us to.

I think a month and date should be decided soon. I know a lot of people that book things out for next summer and it would be great if we can get something worked out.

I also have pics from when everyone was in Jr.High. We can put them on also. LOL

I never did pick up my senior year yearbook... so I'm no help. I don't even have any of my senior photos anymore. We've moved too much and after dealing with black mold in our home, we don't really have much in the way of 'old' photos here at all.

Senior pictures would be awesome but I no longer have my yearbook or any pictures. I think August would be a nice time for the reunion because a lot of people could be taking vacations. I have my other class reunion in Nebraska in July. This site is awesome and Donna is doing a really great job. There are a lot of our classmates on Facebook now too.

I think end off summer would be best. Personally I would have to take off more than one day to attend and with so many kiddos (6 to be exact) to juggle summer would by far be best. But this is JMO...

One thought in response to some people not wanting their image posted for all to see... If someone wanted to scan them all, you could create a portfolio ("Senior Pictures") to store them in. Just lock the profile so that only members can see it. Then, if you want to steal the image and post it to your own profile, it is easily accessible.

And in regards to the date, I am pretty open to whatever works. I'm only a 4 hour drive away, so not much of a problem regardless.

If the fall football idea is a "no-go" then I wonder if we could do it during the time of the fair??? That could be fun to take kids to while in town--or maybe that's too chaotic for classmates whose families participate in the fair??? or we could go to Ottumwa and watch a movie then eat at Golden Corral. (haha)Carrie

Here are some ideas to throw around-
FHS football game(fall)
Look into getting a commedian or hypnotist
Go to Riverside Casino(charter a bus or something)
Could we use the FHS gym? Do like an 80's theme party?
Talent/variety show?
Gather info about guests ahead of time and do a Reunion Jeporday game with MCs.
Karaoke/DJ/Wii/Guitar Hero

I like the fair idea. That would be a nice thing to take the kids too. I know the fair is in July. The River side thing is also a nice idea but it is a big place and everyone would just go different directions.

Also, I have heard the new bar/restaurant(?) on HWY 1 is nice---??? I know nothing about it tho!

Up By 1 is the new bar/grill in town. They have a "banquet room" that can be reserved for private parties. We just had our school Christmas party there, and they were very easy to work with. It might be fun to reserve it for the Friday night of the weekend reunion for those who would like a place to get together. Also, the county fair has been in late June the past couple of years. I like the idea of having the reunion then. I wonder if we could convince the fair board to let us have a dance there - for old time's sake???

12/30/08 02:30 AM #19

Donna Fitzgerald (Smith)

If we had the reunion at the same time as the fair, then we couldn't use the same building for the dance that we used to have them in. They have all of those buildings set up with exhibits. However, if we have it at a different time other than the fair, you can rent that buiding for whatever reason you want: birthday parties, dances, family reunions, potlucks, etc.
That is always a possibility...if we do that then we'd have to decide if we would be doing that after a meal or cater a meal there or try to organize a potluck ( which would be difficult for out of towners). I can check on fair dates tomorrow and report back with dates and a price.
Mindy-could you check on the rate for renting the room at Up by 1? Also, you might ask them how many it holds. It might be better to have it there since there would be a bar available for drinks. I don't know if you can bring alcohol into the fairgrounds ( well, following the rules, that is!)
We could also just rent it for like Friday night to have a gathering and plan the main event for Saturday to be more formal???!! I like the idea of having more than one event in the weekend. It would be nice to have some sort of picnic at a park or somewhere on Saturday or Sunday afternoon, that way we could get to meet everyone's children since at this point I think most of us have children.

Oh...I forgot...I'd like to start the process of choosing a weekend. The most chosen month right now is July, however, not that many people voted. If you haven't voted, please do so now!!!

I like the Idea of having Friday night at Up by 1. That is a nice place.

We are open to most anything as long as it is during summer. We do need to know soon to put in for vacation time and scheduling training. How long until we choose?

I am open to whenever - whatever seems to be the majority rule works for me. I do like some of Carrie's ideas - a comedian/hypnotist would be fun.

One problem with hiring entertainment that costs too much is that I don't think we have any money to work with right now. I believe Andy was in charge of the money for the 10th reunion. I'll have to track him down and ask if there is anything left over or not. With the 15th reunion being so laid back, I don't know if anyone took up a collection for planning the 20th...I think we were all too drunk by the end of the night to think about that....or was that just me???

01/01/09 03:52 AM #25

Donna Fitzgerald (Smith)

The verdict is....we don't have ANY money at all to work with. Whatever we decide to do, we'll have to be creative in choosing entertainment or booking it. If we can make plans and try to estimate an approximate figure of costs, perhaps people would be willing to chip in to make it happen??
