KRIEGER, Carl W. "CK" Of Lake Fenton, age 80, born August 5, 1934 in Chicago, passed away at Genesys Regional Medical Center on Friday, December 26, 2014, with his beloved family at his side. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Jim Combs officiating. Visitation 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charity that benefits children in need, such as the Whaley Home for Children. Orphaned at a young age, Carl became a determined self-made man, and his life was a gift to many. Carl, a track champion at Lane Tech in Chicago, was recruited to U of M in Ann Arbor. He later transferred and graduated from E.M.U. and became a teacher and coach at Flint Central High School in 1959. He was a successful and legendary track and field coach for 28 years. He was a mentor to many athletes, state and national champions. Carl was one of the early presidents of the on-going Michigan High School Track and Field Association, conducting many clinics throughout the years and officiating NCAA track meets. He was a "Mr. Fix-It", who never hired a repairman. His motto was "If you don't know how, read a book." He had a passion for learning, dancing, cooking and books, especially cookbooks gifted to him by his children. Carl was a very gifted dancer. He was always "the life of the party." He loved leading pep rallies at his beloved Flint Central and was known as the Chief Spirit Maker. Carl and Doris were hoping to return to their winter home in Naples, FL, but God had other plans for him. He faced many health challenges during the past year-but was a fighter and tackled them with unbelievable courage and perseverance. Carl is survived by his wife, of 34 years, Doris; his children, Karla Krieger, Jennifer (Bob) Venegoni, Kurt (Sherry) Krieger, Kristie (Rich) Ulery and Karen (Ken) Schmitz; special step-children, Angela (Mark) Egner and Michael Bloch (Laurie Galloway); loving grandfather to, Casey and Chad Hunt, Alyse, Adriel and Dane Egner, Lauren and Olivia Krieger, Cooper and Mikala Ulery; Alex Jo Schimtz; brother to, Betty Spoon, Marilyn Goede, Donald Krieger and Bruce Krieger.
