After graduation I married Charles Wood, class of 1967. We had a baby girl and were married for 11 years. I then worked for Spectrum Emergency Care for 11 years and got remarried and moved up to Mackinaw. We built a house in the country and I opened a cell store. Later on, I opened a Millworks store. We lived in Mackinaw for15years and moved to Stonewolf Golf Course. We then opened a Wine Store in Fairview Heights named after my Granddaughter, Olivia's Wines and Gifts. We lived there for 13 years and now I am trying to relocated back to St Louis.

School Story

My mother picked me up from school and took me to the dentist. After the dentist she took me back to school. The dentist gave me some pills to take before I left. By the time I got to school, I was drugged. I got out of the car and went into the school lobby and decided to take a nap on "The Crest". The next thing I know I was waking up in the nurses office and my mother was there. She took me back home. When I found out what I did I was so embarrassed.

What did you do right after high school?

Right after school I did payroll for The Flaming Pit Restaurants. Charles and I were married and I moved to Fort Leonardwood.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to be outdoors. Gardening and landscaping is always a big part of my life. I love to travel. Horseback riding, swimming, biking and just picnicing. I hang out with my granddaughter and family most of the time. One day Olivia was at my house and we swam all day, played catch, skateboarded, and roller skated. She then wanted to take a walk and it was 103 degees outside. I turned to her and asked her if she was trying to kill me. She was about 4 years old. She looked at me and said she was trying to keep me young forever. I jumped up and said, let's go!

What would we be surprised to know about you?

With the help of my two brothers, I physically built a two story house with a wrap around porch in the country. It was the greatest accomplishment I did besides raising my daughter.

If you could build a second house anywhere, where would it be?

I'm too tired to build a second house, but if I could pay to have another house built, it would be near the ocean. Tropical breezes would be nice.

What's your favorite memory of McCluer High School?

Hanging out with my friends and going to the football games, wrestling tournaments, and basketball..

Least favorite memory at McCluer?

The only bad memory I have is when the plane crashed into the gym. It was a miracle no students were injured. An assembly had just let out. God was truly watching out for us. I remember parents were everywhere and it was frantic.

Biggest thing you would do differently if you went back to your time at McCluer?

I wouldn't change a thing. I loved our school. It was a wonderful place to go.

Kathy was my childhood friend growing up.  She lived up the street from me.  I remember her family was Irish and going to her house and drinking Irish tea.  We had fun times together.  RIP Kathy.
