Mark Andrew Danison, 55, of Stafford County  died Friday, June 21, 2013.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Mary “Mimi” Danison, and children Luke William Danison and Jennifer Alyssa “Ali” Danison, all of Stafford; mother Sara Karene Danison of Atlanta, Ga.; brother Matthew Lee Danison of Cape Canaveral, Fl.; sister Lola Dee Danison, of Atlanta; and a niece, Sarah Minna Danison also of Atlanta.

Mark was a native of St. Petersburg, Fla., and graduated in 1980 from Georgia State University with a bachelor’s degree in history. He earned a master’s degree in business in 1992 from Florida Institute of Technology, and a second master’s in contracting and acquisition management in 1993.

He served 16 years in the U.S. Army as an armor officer, retiring in 1996 with the rank of major. As a civilian, he worked as a civil service acquisition professional in defense contracting for the Department of Defense. At the time of his death, he was assigned to the Army staff at the Pentagon.

As a youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America and proudly attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an avid reader, particularly of military history, and enjoyed painting military-themed miniatures.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Covenant Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at noon Thursday, June 27, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Quantico National Cemetery with military honors.
