What have I been up to for the last 20 years?.....ok...here goes....
I attended California Maritime Academy for 2 years, and then transferred to Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) where I graduated with a BS in Nautical Science and Marine Transportation as well as a USCG Third Mates Unlimited Tonnage license. I also met my beautiful wife Laura while at MMA. I got my first job 7 days after graduation and have been sailing the high seas ever since. I started as Third Mate on a heavy-lift ship resupplying an Air Force base in the Azores, and eventually ascended to the position of Captain. I got a little restless being on one ship for so long and my wife protested that she didn’t see me enough, so I decided to try a career change and accepted a shore side position with TyCom in 2000 as a installation manager for their fiber optic cable division. Well, 2 years later I had spent 4 months in Hong Kong, 3 months in South Africa, 5 months in India and another few months all elsewhere (Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan), my wife looked at me and said “Now I don’t see you at all, I’ll take you going out to sea any day!” So I left TyCom and went back to sailing with Seabulk Tankers. I worked on 5 of their tankers and had a ball meeting amazing people and going all over the world. After one of their tankers went aground in Alaska, Seabulk lost their appetite for tankers and elected to sell all of their ships to Chevron. So I put in for some vacation and spent 3 months on the beach, and finally got a job on Crowley’s newest tanker, the “Evergreen State.” Fortunately I have an amazing group of officers to work with, most of which I have sailed with on previous ships. Laura and I lived in Massachusetts for 10 years so we could be close to Laura’s family, and then we finally moved back to Colorado to be close to mine. We have two wonderful children that have added depth and meaning to our lives. We have also come to embrace my job as I only work 6 months a year, and the other 6 we play. As you can imagine it has been difficult to keep up with everyone while I am on the water….Facebook doesn’t work out at sea. I am very much looking forward to seeing everyone! And….just in case I don’t make it, as my schedule always changes, I truly wish everyone the best in life. If you’re ever in Castle Rock, please look me up!
