Wow – can it only be 38 years since leaving Peter Pond High to venture forth into an unknown world? I am sure we have all lived varied lives since then and ended up in places we couldn’t have predicted.
After graduating in 1972 I started at the U of A, learned how to drink beer and play bridge, married Pam, travelled to Europe and finally graduated in 1978 with a general BA in psych and sociology. Hmmm – what to do...I was too young to be a Walmart greeter, so I started out as a social worker in St. Paul and later Edmonton. After 3 years I returned to the U of A, took a BEd and Pam and I moved to northern BC to run a wilderness school for our school district. We agreed to stay for 2 years. Vanderhoof seemed like a nice enough place, but there was a world to explore.
25 years later, we moved to Victoria. But those 25 years were rich with experiences; I taught in various schools, worked as a principal in others and started the province’s largest e-learning school, completed an MEd and then an EdD, coached my kids in soccer, cross country skiing and biathlon, acted in plays and generally had a good time.
Now, living in Victoria, I work for the Ministry of Education with rural and e-learning schools. I enjoy exploring our island environs from my kayak and am looking forward to resuming my travels throughout the world.
