Harriett Rhoades Porter

I joined the Navy June 14, 1968. I retired from the Navy as a Chief Personnelman (E-7) September 30, 1993. During this period of time I was stationed in Naval Station San Diego, CA, RTC (W), Bainbridge, MD, RTC Orlando, FL, Naval Air Station Naples, Italy, NAS Sigonella, Sicily, NAS San Diego, CA, NAS Moffett Field, CA, Naval Base Treasure Island, CA, and Naval Research & Development Center San Diego CA. While assigned to NAS Moffett Field I was deployed with Patrol Squadron (VP) 19 and VP 9 to Kadena Air Force Base Okinawa, Air Force Base Misawa, which is in northern Japan twice and to Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory. One of the best trips while deployed, I was able to take was a three day trip to Hong Kong with my husband. We decided to retire to Crystal River on the west coast side of Florida and open up our locksmith business. We will be in business 20 years as of January 2015.
It's really been busy around here, I'm the secretary for the Citrus County Builders Association and on many of their committees. The CCBA just completed our 35 annual golf tournament. We partner with the Boys and Girls Club. This year we were able to donate $3,500.00 to them. Not bad considering we had only 15 teams. Next month we'll have our 20th annual family fishing tournament. Last year we paid out over $15,000.00 in prize money. We donate a portion of the proceeds to the Military Order of the Purple Heart. I was very surprised at the Installation Dinner in September to be named as the Associate of the Year for 2014. During our Presidents Reception this February I was again surprised to be named Top Recruiter for the 2014 Membership Committee.
