"I first met Mary Ann at a barn dance that the Fort Wayne Park's Department hosted every Friday night during the summer months at the McMillen Park Pavillion, close to the corner of Oxford and Hessen Cassel Road. A mutual friend, David Schweizer introduced us. David and Mary Ann worked together at the root beer stand on Pontiac Street near Anthony Blvd. The evening ended up with me walking Mary Ann home, and David walking home alone. After that, David wasn't too happy with me!

That friendship began in late summer as we began our sophomore year. In the fall months, we dated by me going over to her house where we sat on the couch and listened to Johnny Mathis albums, and sometimes the Kingston Trio.
