I worked for AARP for 25 years in Outreach and Advovcay, especially in Illinois. One of my concentrations involved fraud preventation and I continue to provide presentations on this topics for groups of all ages. I have worked with law enforcement trainings as well on fraud and older adults.
I have been an advocate on aging issues for over 30 years and continue to work in the local, state and national arenas. My wife just retired as the Director of the Illinois Department on Aging, capping a 35+ year career working for older adults in Illinois. We both have continued our work in LGBTQ+ older adult issues for 20+ years local, state and nationally - it has been some of the most meaningful work we have done...and must admit, as two aging lesbians, hoping to build a supportive aging system for us as well. :-)
I'm currently the Board President for the Women in the Arts/National Women's Music Festival, Inc - we produce a national women's music Festival every summer in Middleton, WI. This year will be our 50-year anniversary of the first festival in 1974. Sometimes feels like a full time job as the non-profit has no paid staff, so we are definitely a WORKING Board...but I love the organization.
And yes, I continue to play violin! I no longer play in classical orchestras, so these days, my favorite things to do: play in pit orchestras for community musical theatre productions (Nunsense and Pippin in 2024) - and occasional church, funeral, and background music opportunities for a variety of events.
And we both love to travel for any reason we can find. Now that Paula is retired, we will be doing even more with trips to Las Vegas, Dollywood and a cruise to Alaska this year. Maybe we will see you there!
