Corinne (Connie) Stafford Van Horn
Corinne Stafford Van Horn. 86, of North Tustin, died on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at her home in North Tustin with husband William and sons Peter and Christopher at her side. Connie was born February 21, 1935 in Pierre, South Dakota, to Waldon and Corinne (Heathcote) Stafford. She graduated from Fullerton Union High School in 1953 and Lake Forest College in 1957 where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Upon graduation she began her teaching career as an English teacher including the opening year 1959-1960 at Ladera Vista Junior High School and Bolsa Grande High School. Connie married William Van Horn in 1962 and the following year joined him in his 6 years of service as an Air Force officer. During this time son Peter was born at Keesler Air Force Base Mississippi followed by son Christopher at Carswell Air Force Base Texas. The family settled in North Tustin where Connie loved gardening in the large yard and caring for her beloved cats. Connie entered the Saddleback Community College to earn her certificate in computer systems. She became a part time college computer instructor for many years at several colleges including Saddleback, Santa Ana College, Irvine Valley College and CSUF. Local companies hiring programmers often asked CSUF applicants if Van Horn was their COBOL programming instructor. A couple of her students actually corrected the company’s programming test answers. Connie was very involved with FUHS alumni actives and greatly enjoyed participating in the planning of the annual PowWow reunions. She really enjoyed visiting with fellow graduates sharing memories and friendships. Connie is survived by Bill, her husband of 59 years and sons Peter Van Horn and Christopher Van Horn.
