Unsolved murder haunts detective:
POMONA - Jack Blair poked at the enchilada on his plate and talked about the woman he never met, and can't forget. Myrna Van Klaveren was 36, a mother of three who married into one of Chino's dairy families.
She worked in a small optometrist's office on South Main Street in downtown Pomona.
And 32 years ago next Sunday, someone walked into her office and stabbed her to death.
Looking up from his plate, Blair, a retired Pomona police detective, asks the question one more time.
"Why was she singled out and murdered?" he said. "I think about it. I always think about it."
Police Chief Joe Romero says Pomona had more than its share of violence in the '70s, and by the end of the decade the city was averaging 50 or 60 murders a year. … (must subscribe to read more)
