Memories Before High School (neighborhood, elementary & jr high, etc.):

I loved attending Victory School from the 1st through the 9th grade. These were my "growing up years" and I have so many great memories from those days. Mr. Lingerfelt was a hard-nosed disciplinarian and held everyone's respect, even if it was partially out of fear. He made a believer out of me when he caught Henry Thomas & me "red-handed" writing the big "F-word" in the red dirt of the play ground. He reprimanded us, especially since we couldn't explain what it meant and had even spelled it wrong. I think our ignorance saved us from a paddling but I can still remember the fear & especially the pain in my ear as he drug us to his office!
I grew up on the Victory/Winget Mill Village until we moved to the Hillcrest area (1602 S. York Rd) in the 3rd or 4th grade. This was a major change in my life since not only did I make new friends, I actually had "in door plumbing" for the first time in my young life! Fortunately, I was able to maintain my old "Mill Hill" friendships as well as "the Hillcresters" through out the years.
The friends I made at Victory remain some of my best friends to this day! I look forward to seeing them and talking about "the good old days" when we meet at our 60th class reunion!

Special School Memories:

At Ashley High School I learned to love cars and girls and to detest math. I played JV football under Coach Mando (a great mentor) but then I allowed the love of cars & girls to take over my time, efforts and senses. In retrospect, I should have stayed with football!!
I had my own car in tenth grade, having bought my first one (a black '37 Chevrolet) by cutting Mrs. McArver's grass for years to pay her the awsome price of $40.00 for my first "ride". I actually got it when I was 14, but couldn't legally drive it until February of the tenth grade. Having a car made it easier to "get the girls". I worked at the Dixie Home store and at the Goodwill Esso to be able get the money ($500.00) to move up to my '50 Chevy slant-back. More car to impress the girls, but not much time to study. I really should have stayed with football!!
Oh well, I made it this far, was reasonably successful, have a great family, good health and a lot of great memories. I would like to thank all of my AHS friends for giving me good social, if not scholastic, memories of the three years at AHS!

We hope you attended our 65th annual Class of 60 Reunion! If you attended you know what a success it was! Those who attended were sent a questionaire regarding when, where, etc we should plan the next meeting. The answers say that most want to go to one a year meeting, have it where we had it, when we had it and a slight change of the program.
We will be sending out the announcement soon, so check in to our site daily for details!!

Good morning and Happy Birthday Beverly! I hope you're into a nice "Special Day"!
Thanks again for the movie! We sent out a question concerning future reunions asking when., where, etc. Overwhelmingly the votes were to change to annually, have the same program, etc. The committee then voted to have the next reunion on Saturday April 25, 2026 at the Southminster Church.. I hope you and Dennis will be healthy and able to join us for this one. We had a great turn out with a lot of hugs at this past one!!

Good Day Class of 60 @ AHS! A Special good day to all you Fathers on this special day! Who
would of thought that we would be getting together and talk about our children and grands, then it's about our health. Well we had such a good time this past reunion that you told us you want to have another one soon and yearly won out. Now it's your turn to mark your calendar and make April 25 2026 your priority! The next thing we want you to do is to help us spread the word

Betti, thank you for attending our Class of 60 Reunion! I don't know of anyone else who goes so over board to attend!! Not only do you travel so far, but you come in early and help us set up for our meeting and then stay after the event to put everything back in place! I'm sorry that I wasn't able to see you again before you left. You are a champion in my sight!!

Classmates, please note that 19 classmates have died in the past 17 months (that we know about. There could be others that we we did not get notice of)!
Only 51 classmates (note 11 were committee members) attended our April 26th Reunion. If you 40 care for your classmates you should help the reunion committee by getting the word to others who missed this past reunion! We as a committee spend more effort in getting people to attend than any thing else done!! Please help us by getting the word out about how much "love-fun" we had and how much was missed by those who didn't attend! ***PLEASE HELP US***
