Ronald Blau Obituary

Ronald Blau age 66 of Sibley, IA died Friday August 24, 2012 at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA. Ronald Dale Blau, son of Bernard and Anna (Akkerman) Blau, was born on July 23, 1946 in Rock Rapids, IA. He attended country school and George Community School, graduating in 1965. While in school, he was an active 4-H member, showing Holstein cows. He also spent a lot of time drag racing at Thunder Valley. In 1969 he married Sandra Sterler in Sibley. They made their home in Hartley and then moved to Sibley in 1971 and have lived in the same house since. Ron worked at AMPI in Sibley for 25 years and retired in 1994 due to health reasons. Ron was an avid fisherman and also loved hunting before his health declined. He spent much time with his boys in the outdoors. He was active in Boy Scouts for many years with his sons, where he most enjoyed the trips to the Boundary Waters. He also shared a close relationship with his daughter, cooking, canning and riding along on car trips. Ron also loved gardening and took pride in providing fresh produce for all his family and friends. He most recently had taken to growing apple trees and large tomato plants. Ron spent most of his time fishing, but also gardening, canning and cooking for others and was famous for his fish fry using all the fish he and his boys had caught. His loving wife, children and grandchildren spent his most precious time surrounded. He and Sandy spent all their time together doing the things that they loved. Many who came calling for coffee, great food, his fresh produce and just general fun conversation, will miss him. This past Friday, August 24, 2012, Ron passed away at the Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley at the age of sixty-six. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sandy; children and their spouses, Rod and LeAnn Blau of Wahpeton, IA, Ryan and Amy Blau of Spencer, IA, Amy and Keith Hakeneis of Fulda, MN; 5 grandchildren, Cody Blau, Kevin Hakeneis, Edyn Blau, Arick Hakeneis and Rafe Blau; sister-in-law, Helen and her husband Tom Malloy of Early, IA; 2 brothers-in-law, Hank Sterler of Spencer, IA and David Roth of Tempe, AZ; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by one son, Ricky; his parents; brother, Wendell; niece, Tiffany; father and mother-in-law, Claus and Ardis Sterler; brother-in-law, Robert Sterler; sister-in-law, Betty Ketterling; and sister-in-law, Clarice (Curly) Roth.

Linda graduated in 1965 from George Community High School.  She married Bruce Eberline and they had a son together.  She died of an aneurysm.

 

 

 

 

 

Obituary of Jack Heitritter

Jackie Dale Heitritter, 63, of Mauston, Wis., formerly of George, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly March 30, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 5, 1946, at the Sibley Hospital in Sibley, Iowa to Florence Emma Marie and John (Jack) Heitritter.

Jack started country school at the age of 4 and graduated from George High School in 1965. Throughout his school years he helped with chores around the family farm located south of George.

After high school he continued farming the family farm until it was sold. Jack then moved to George where he drove over-the-road trucks and worked as a foreman constructing concrete grain elevators throughout the region. Jack then relocated to New Lisbon where he purchased a dairy farm. He worked that farm for several years before selling it and moving to Mauston, where he resided until his death. In Mauston, Jack worked in home construction and as a remodeling contractor in and about the community.                                                                 

             

 

He is survived by sisters, Audrey (Joel) Evers of Hoyt Lakes, Minn. and Shari (Raymond) Antisdel of Tipton, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends in Mauston.                                                                                                  

 

 

Obituary of Doug Heyer

Douglas L. Heyer, 64, of Willow River, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 in Eau Claire, WI. He was born January 7, 1947 in George, IA to Harvey and Dorothy (Grotewold) Heyer. He graduated from George High School in 1965.  Douglas was President of the Optimist Club of Minneapolis. He was also site manager of Camp Kitchi-Kanis of Willow River. Douglas enjoyed fishing and woodworking. 

 

Douglas is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cheri Heitritter; brother, Dana Heyer. 

 

Douglas is survived by his daughter, Meleah (Kyle) Holbrook of Brainerd; son, Justin (Missy) Norring of Breezy Point; sister, Sandi (Karl) David of Birchwood, WI; 4 grandchildren, Gavin, Josiah, Ashton and Halyn.

 

 

 

Obituary of Jim Hickman

SALINAS, Calif. - Jim Hickman, 54, of Salinas, Calif., formerly of Forest City, died Nov. 25, 2000, at Valley Memorial Hospital of brain cancer.

Jim Hickman was born June 25, 1946, in Sibley.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He lived in Salinas for 22 years and had worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for several years.

He was a heavy equipment operator with Ed Porter Earth Moving Co. in Salinas, Calif.

He was an avid radio airplane control member.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of Salinas, Calif.; his parents, Ray and Olga Hickman, of George; two daughters, Lori Hickman, of Dallas, Texas, and Lisa Kayser, of Fall River, Wis.; two brothers, Jack Hickman, of Forest City, and Jerry Hickman, of Prundale, Calif.; two grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
