Who were your favorite teachers?
My absolute favorite teacher was my band director, Ms. Anne Brown. My high school career would definitely have been totally different without her. I also adored my French teacher Ms. Pam Smith. We called her Madame Fifi for fun. I had the privilege of teaching along side her when I completed my graduate studies. This was such a treat. I also loved Mrs. Gordon. She was and still is my favorite English teacher from high school. Just seeing her face in passing still brightens my day. I, like so many others loved when she would do the "Chicken Strut." Also, I think that anybody who took Mrs. Dobey's class would agree that she made learning Biology lots of fun. Mrs. McCants' class during my Senior year was a real highlight. She was so sweet! Mrs. Jones was not my teacher, but she and several other ole' school teachers really knew how to make your day (i.e. the Wragg Sisters, Mary Ella Greene, Alma White and Paul Logan). I admired a lot of young teachers too who came on board around the time that we were about to graduate like Michelle Staggers, Mrs. Stevens and Rosemary Gray. There are so many other teachers that I could mention that I can't possibly name them all. However, I can't possibly end without mentionning Coach Freddie, Coach Keith Brown, and Young and Coach Mook. Although neither of them was ever my teacher, I always loved seeing them around school, and my brother always spoke very highly of these guys. I really enjoyed my Drama teacher too, but I can't remember his name right off. Also, I loved Mr. "Cleveland" Smith. I think he was the head custodian. Being a band student, in my eyes, he was the man. In addition, I loved the administrative staff during my high school years. I know that this sounds strange, but I think we had the Dream Team (Jonathan Moultrie, Doiley, Drayton, Allen/Rice & Joe Isacc). I really appreciate all of the guidance counselors too. These people (Rosa Williams, and Emma Holmes and others ). REALLY cared about us, and I often frequented their office. So, I think they all deserve a big shout for getting the first official graduates of GHS through! Last, but not least, let us not forget Mr. Jones. This guy had to be the funniest teacher on earth. I didn't like math, but I took his class during my Senior year just so I could have the "Jones Experience." Rest in peace.
