Reporting from Cambridge MA. Marathon Bombers Saga- Not a Movie Posted Saturday, April 20, 2013 09:51 AM Gun2.jpg Thanks to all of you who emailed, texted and called. Having these communication routes is not only good to keep those you care about in a loop, but they helped us identify the perpetrators in the first place. The bad news is the Internet's easy access to assault weapons, web pages and blogs that enlist and accelerate terrorism. We are lucky to not live in a war zone, but none of what went down in the last days was a war.It made those of us who live in Cambridge, Watertown and Boston wish we were watching a movie, but we were not.It was as if every photo or news reel of these towns and streets wetravel on every day was a blank outline of buildings.Superimposed on that blank layout was the Army and the SWAT teams like figures in a child's little battle board game or a cheap Nintendo 3D .There was no movie plot, just quiet, anxiety, helicopters over head, and thousands of police while the TV brought us live to every spot and every move as it happened. What heightened the experience was the transformation of these two young men from kids you might know in H.S. to terrorists and assassins . This remains a mystery. We wished it was a movie, one we could leave because it was too violent and never-ending, or one in which the hero drops out of the sky and saves the day.In the end, it was the homeowner who thought it was odd that his boat cover had loosened, saw some blood and called 911.Of course it is not the end and this kind of hatred is a piece of evil in our world as we know it today.
Best to you all Susan Miller-Havens |
