I went to the University of Wisconsin - Madison and graduated with a degree in Behavioral Disabilities (Special Education). I went directly on to Law School in Chicago. I married Jim Urkov in 1984, right after graduation, a dentist practicing in Chicago's loop. I worked with Westlaw, a division of West Publishing Company, for 3 years until the day my first child was born.
I stayed at home with all three children, starting a small jewelry business, which is currently referral only since I don't have time to make as many pieces as I once did. I went back to work in 2003. Currently I work for a company called Lower Electric, in Northbrook. We are Natural Gas and Electricity brokers for businesses in Illinois and other deregulated states. I am the Director of Operations and Administration.
I loved to ice skate. I wasn't all that good, but I could definitely stay up on my feet. We went ice skating for PE one time and every time I stepped onto the ice, I fell down. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't stay upright . . .
Turns out, I had forgotten to take the skate guards off before stepping onto the ice. At the time I was completely embarrassed. As the years passed, I think back and sometimes wish that was the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to me.
