I attended GCC as a “Music Performance” major for two years. Prior to graduating, I was offered an opportunity to go “on the road” and get paid. I jumped at the chance and spent the next three years traveling throughout the US and Canada. I ended up in Hawaii. I lived there for another three years playing in Big Bands and Jazz Clubs. Then, “Disco Mania” hit… and live bands were replaced by DJ’s. After a short return to Glendale, I again hit the road for another three years. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being a “musician on the road”. I saw the world and played with both BIG and small name performers. Eventually, however, I got tired of living out of a suite case.
In 1981, I decided to get a “real” job. I went to the library and got some books on electronics. I studied computer programming and got a job in the banking industry. I spent the next eighteen years developing software for Coast Federal Savings, Great Western Savings, Home Savings and Wells Fargo Bank. In 1985, I met Nancy (my wife). She was a “Systems Analyst”. We married in 1990… delayed due to company policy. In 1999 Nancy and I started a consulting business. We’ve been fortunate to remain busy throughout the years. For the past three years I’ve been a “Software Architect” for UPS.
We have no children of our own, yet we have many dependants. I have been the father-image to, Joelyn, since her birth in 1987. Joelyn is my niece (on Nancy’s side). She graduates from Redlands University in May. Being involved in her life has significantly enriched ours.
Music is still my passion. I continue to play in Big Bands, Jazz Clubs and Musicals (pit orchestra) around the L.A. area.
Nancy and I recently purchased an RV and have enjoyed hitting the road together. I look forward to retirement. There are so many places I want her to see.
We, unfortunately, won’t be able to attend the reunion… work, work, work …
