Comments:

1973 - Colorado State university in Fort Collins; Studied ornamental horticulture along with lots of skiing in Vail with Sandy Starr and Jimmy Holloway (ha)

1974 - John Tatooles (New Trier ‘76) buys a classic 1956 Continental Mark II from my dad’s antique car collection.

1977 - Out of college I started full time work in the family business, Moore Landscapes, Inc. on Landwehr Road due west of GBS.

1984 - My younger brother (Eric Moore GBS ‘76) and I began a long term buyout of the landscape contracting firm from our parents.

1989 - While living in my condo on North State Pkwy downtown, I ran into John Tatooles at a bar. We didn’t recognize each other but we put the story together of his purchase of my Dad’s Continental back in ‘74. . . We have been partners ever since.

1990 - John and I converted an historic two-flat in Lincoln Park Chicago (with the help of Mark Carlson GBS ‘73) into a single family home.

1998 - sold the Lincoln park home and moved to 90 Hawthorn in Glencoe across the street from the lake and on a beautiful ravine.

2000 - Relocated Moore Landscapes to its current location on 13 acres at 1869 Techny Rd in Northbrook

2000-07 - I designed, built, and sold 66 townhouses (Linden Tree Lane) on the family’s original 10 acre homestead across from the Glenview Ice Center, with once again the incredible help of Mark Carlson!

2004 - We bought our first of three homes in Palm Beach after my parents decided to sell their Lighthouse Point, FL winter house and move full time to their Three Lakes WI summer home in the Northwoods.

2009 - We built our then winter home and now ‘forever’ home in Palm Beach one mile south of Mar a Lago.

2015 - sold the Glencoe house and moved full time to FL with 3 dogs

2017 - my brother and I sold 80% of Moore Landscapes to a private equity firm and remained on the board.

2022 - ‘re-sold’ 100% of the company to Yellowstone Landscape

2023 - enjoying full time retirement by running 4 miles a day on the beach, swimming, some golf, and traveling the world with our best friends. I can’t believe it’s been fifty years since GBS!

School Story:

My best memory at GBS was my architecture class with Mr. Holmes and being selected along with George Pappageorge, Matt Jans, and John Reynolds to design the ‘Glenbrook II’ house on Techny Rd. which the building trades class built the following year. Sandy Starr (RIP) was also in the class and we became good friends and future college roommates. (I’ll add more about him in the ‘in memoriam’ section)
