I didn't leave much of a mark on GBS, I'm afraid. I wasn't gifted with athletic talent or artistic skills. If I couldn't get a laugh, I wasn't much use. But I was pretty useful at that, at least.
When I got frostbite senior year, I was determined to go somewhere it wouldn't get cold, and matriculated at the "Harvard of the Desert Southwest," otherwise known as Arizona State. Coached Olympic weightlifting, worked for Barry Goldwater, for crying out loud, and left school with a tree-hugging, Environmental Science degree and a jones to go to law school, practice environmental law and save the world.
Instead, got a MS in Advertising at Northwestern and became a Mad Man on Madison Avenue. 17 years in the beer business kept me young (and in my "girlish figure"). Going back and forth between New York and Chicago let me chase my other passion, racing sailboats around the world, until my last NY job convinced me to find something different. So moved the wife, kids, dog and, until then, useless SUV to Jackson Hole, WY and ran my own ad agency for a lot of years. And returned to my tree-hugging roots in the world of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. So much so, that I got a great gig as the Executive Director of The International Ecotourism Society for a year in DC, while commuting to Jackson Hole. Great for world travel and altruism, but not for building the college fund. So when the opportunity to return home to Chicago, build a talented young ad agency into a national force and send my kids to real schools, I took it.
So here I am.
