thanks so much for all of the info guys! i will add Jason Warner to the 'in memory' page, my condolensces to his family and friends. casey, the biggest thing that we need is missing people, so if everyone could email everyone they know that graduated with us that would help tremendously. i have some new info that i will post on the homepage. i'm so glad that everyone is getting excited about it!

Waffle House sounds right.

Another suggestion - name tags.

Hello guys - how about posting an ad getting the word out about missing classmates. I am willing to pay for the ad. Just let me know. What is the target date to have everything finalized.

Hey Renata,
that is sooooooo generous of you! i spoke w/ the harbor cruise company and if the majority of classmates agree, there is a $250 deposit to hold the date that can be refunded up to 30 days prior. with that said, i would like to move on it asap, just so we have it secured. i guess what i'm trying to say is, the sooner the better lol. according to the surveys, about %85 of those who have taken it are in favor of a harbor cruise, and won't mind the no ac/heat b/c of the cool nature of the date. i've facebooked and myspaced tons of people this week and called the school and left the website. i've already seen a ton of traffic so hopefully they'll still pour in. we'll see! thanks again, and we would greatly appreciate anything you do to get the word out! ;)

If you are still looking for a DJ I know a few and should be able to get reasonable rates. Email me at jessgless@knology.net if you are interested. One guy djs at the Owner's Box and does weddings... he has a wide selection of music. The other works off and on at B92 and a bar/club in West Ashley. Let me know if I can help...

Thanks Jessica, I'll def. need to look into that in the next month or two. I saw Mike Bender while delivering a groom's cake and got his card so we'll see what he has to offer too. I'll be in touch, thanks again!

7.28.08-update: Hello all! The reunion is fast approaching and I wanted to share a bit of feedback that we've compiled from the two surveys. Here are the stats of those surveyed as they currently stand: 80% opted for the Harbor Cruise, 85% would prefer heavy hor d'oeuvres to a sit-down dinner, 86% would like to have a DJ vs. a band, and 60% would pay b/w $50-75 per ticket. We would love to hear your feedback before going forward with booking. Please note: if you are strongly against any of these options, this is the time to voice your opinion. Also, a few people have voiced an interest in having a day picnic for the families. If anyone would like to volunteer to head up this event, please contact me ASAP. Thanks again, ttys!

Have you thought about having the event at the school? Did you know we could rent out GCHS's gym or something? Just an option but think about this; everyone knows where it is, might be cheaper, more room, reminiscent for those of us who haven't been back, etc. Just an idea.

Also I am just a little concerned about what we do if it rains and we all have to try to get under that covered area with no air conditioner. Could be an uncomfortable night….also does anyone get motion sickness? Being confined to a boat for hours is not always fun, especially if you are sick or are not having a good time. Then you can’t leave.

Also I am concerned about the people who might want to go to the reunion but may not hear about it in time to RSVP. Will there be tickets at the door? How will that work? Also quite frankly some of our classmates are doing better than others. $75 is not a big deal for me but for some it is out of the question.

I think we should try to pool our resources to make this as fun but inexpensive as possible. I am sure that out of all of us some people know DJs, some know caterers, musicians, photographers, etc. Any thoughts? Also I am happy to help where I can. Thanks

Thanks so much Dawn for your response, I was hoping that someone would address those issues so that we could discuss them. I had a lot of the same concerns, but then saw the overwhelming response to the survey. There is no doubt in my mind that others may be thinking the same way, and that's why I'd love to hear what everyone has to say. If this doesn't generate enough dialogue, I'll post another survey asking specifically for people to choose either the boat cruise or the gym. I'll have more info in a few days, I just wanted to give everyone a chance to speak if they wanted to. Thansk again!

Jenny, at first I liked the dinner cruise but now I think I like Dawn's idea of having the reunion at our gym. I dont know about anyone else but the only time I have been to GCHS since graduation was to vote. I think it would be great to see how the school has changed over the years and it would certainly give us a lot to talk about. If you need a DJ, let me know because I know someone. If not, let me know how I can help with this. I look forward to seeing everyone

Hey Jenni,
I agree with Ian and Dawn. Though I am all for the boat it may not be finanically easy for some. Specially with a lot of people living out of SC and with the stupid gas prices it would be hard to spend 50-75 per person and then the traveling costs. With that said. I have time on my hands up here in DE with being a student and all I can help with some stuff. Just email me with what you have and what needs to be looked up and priced. I think the main thing we need to do is get a set idea and prices before the end of August so that people have time to plan and save if need be. Maybe a committee would be a great thing to have here shortly.

Ok guys, I have a call into the coach that handles the bookings etc. I will find out how feasible it will be to hold it in the gym, but we have to also factor in the cost of starting from scratch there. Ex: no tables, chairs, decor, bar area, food stations, clean-up crew, security gaurds...If for some reason it seems to add up too quickly, I'll re-evaluate the ballrooms and see what we can do there. I def. agree that it may be easier for people to come and go as they please, but am not sure that the ticket price will change much. I'll report back as soon as I speak w/ him and get some ballparks. Other than that, Casey or Jessica G., if you guys would like to start getting quotes from local DJ's, that would help me out tremendously. Just message me if you are able to help and I'll give you the details that I have. Thanks so much for your input and help guys, where ever we hold it, it will be great to catch up!

I'm also for the school gym, even if the price is the same as the boat. I'm not super fond of the idea of an uncontrolled climate, and being back in the gym will bring back tons of memories, although I'm sure it looks different now. It may not be too difficult to get hold of the things we'll need. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help with that.

I am for the gym as well, but another place that might work is one of the banquet halls at Wannamaker Park. I was reading about it and it has the items you mentioned before. Just a suggestion:) Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Jenni,

I sent an email to Maxwell Rollins. He was my professor at CSU and he also owns a DJ business. I will let you know when I hear from him.

Great thinking April and I so appreciate your help Ian. I will look forward to hearing about the dj... also, I'll check into the banquet hall at Wannamaker. It looks like the gym would be a great place, and I've been playing phone tag w/ the coach so I should have something to report soon. Thanks again!

Jenni,

I spoke with Maxwell Rollins today. Assuming we need them for four hours, it is $495 and then $50 for each additional half hour and I also found out that Mr. Bender works with him. Let me know if you want to do this or if you want to check around and get a few more quotes. Let me know soon though because he only has one DJ left for that night.

thanks so much Ian, i'm in the process of checking w/ a couple other dj's so i will let you know as soon as i hear back. thanks again! also, i'm still waiting on a call back from the coach at GCHS but some people have requested that we NOT have it there as well. i am checking out the banquet space at Wannamaker though and it looks very promising. i'll keep you updated!

Well, I am in agreement with Dawn - I think it would be interesting to have the reunion at the Gym. I do understand though that we would still have to pay close to the same price for the tickets.
I recommend that you check into the Banquet Room at Cypress Gardens. I have been to a couple receptions there and the place is very nice. The gym is a great idea, but I also wouldn't mind it being somewhere else.
I am willing to offer up my time as far a catering the event - I have done some catering in the past. I would also be willing to help with the set up and clean up if you chose to have the reunion at the Gym. Maybe we could get some other people to volunteer and that would cut down on cost. Just a suggestion.
Also, if there is anyone who will be coming from out of town with there kids or if they are still in the lowcountry area and have a family - I would love to get the families together for a day at the park. If anyone is interested, please email me at ccaraviello@hotmail.com or leave me a message here.
I can't wait to see everyone there.

Hey all, FANTASTIC news!!! I have secured a venue that I think will please everyone. I tried contacting the coach at GC about renting the gym but never got a call back..after 3 messages. Also, I have heard that they would not be open to alcohol on premise. The new venue is actually a country club clubhouse and I am working out a great deal so as to do my best to keep ticket prices as low as possible. Since a couple of people were worried about getting sick on the boat and the situation with the gym, this seems to be the best solution. Also I have secured catering and am negotiating with a DJ. Thank you so much to all that have helped with vendors and I will be adding details as soon as contracts are signed. I will post a new survey to get a head count and that will determine ticket prices. Thanks again!!!
