I worked for FBCU in Goshen for 17.5 yrs. Had a kidney/pancreas transplant in 2003 and battled cancer in 2004, but very blessed to be alive and well today. In 2007, I started taking classes at Bethel towards a degree in the medical field. Since I recently got married, I've relocated to Indy, where I am a student at IUPUI. My husband's dad is Steve Slabaugh, who was the shop/trades teacher at GHS for over 30 years, but retired as of a few years ago. I am enjoying married life and living in Indy, although I miss my family, friends, and church in the Goshen area.
What type of person were you in high school?:
I was pretty quiet and kept to myself in school. I was still coming out of my shyness and awkwardness stage, although I loved to hang out with my friends. Today I feel that I am more confident of myself....at least on most days. :o)
What do you like to do for fun?
walk, watch movies, spend time with my husband (and dog), family, and friends.
Any particular event that stands out that has impacted your life the most?
The event that's most impacted my life would have to be pre- and post-transplant, and even the transplant. For about 15 months, I was on home-dialysis while waiting for my new kidney and pancreas. A few months after my transplant, I fought cancer. In that time, I found out exactly who I am and how strong I am...it increased my faith. Second, this event helped draw my family closer together.
Who makes you laugh the most?:
My husband, Troy, makes me laugh the most, but members of both our families get the job done as well.
