I attended UND where I received a degree in Elementary Education. While I haven't actually taught grade school, I do a lot of work in adult education.
After 9 years with Tri-Valley Opportunity Council Child Care Resource & Referral, a job that depends on federal, state and private funding that was not renewed I went to work for Lakes & Prairies Community Action Child Care Resource & Referral. While the agency was different the work was a lot the same and I began my role as a consultant in the fall 2005. I got to spend part of my work time back in classrooms and family child care programs to improve the care of infants and toddlers.
Since my first update on this site I have left my employment as a consultant and am working right now as a toddler teacher in a child care center. I am considering going back to school this year as I am feeling like now is the time to make some of those changes in my life that I always put off to some day.
After 2 months teaching toddlers I began working at Valley Community Health Centers-Dental Clinic as the Family Services person. As part of a community health center we specialize in serving the uninsured and the underinsured. My job is to assist our patients in connecting to other communtiy resources to help meet whatever needs they may have at the time. No two days are the same and it is very intersting work.
I also have a fun money part-time job as an usher at Ralph Englestad Arena, although I still get to as many Sioux hockey games as I work.
After all my years of being a scout mom with Corey, he finally earned his Eagle scout in 2007. I continue to volunteer as a merit badge counselor with Troop 20 in my spare time.
Corey also graduated in 2007 from Central and Northland Community & Technical College in 2008 with a diploma in plumbing. He continues in his quest to find himself and is thinking about a return to school at UND.
